+1 for Audiofinder! It's brilliant... all the tools I needed for handling loops and samples packed into one utility.

The answer is simply, "it depends!". Some laptops no longer socket the processors, but use ball grid array or similar soldering techniques. If that's the case you have to replace the whole motherboard. If the video card is integrated into the motherboard instead of being on a MiniPCI bus then you ha...

The Firewire 410 (at least mine) ships with a 6pin <-> 6pin cable and a 4pin <-> 6pin cable. It worked fine from the standard 4pin port on my laptop. You do however need a 12V power supply with the appropriate end on it to power the 410, as 4pin does not supply bus power. I picked up one from an ele...

RAID is only really useful if you have two internal drives. Then you want to use RAID mirroring. A huge review of OSX Backup software (found by googling for "osx backup software" and following the first link.) I don't recommend using RAID to perform backups on a laptop, it's really, really not desig...

I have an M-Audio Firewire 410, that does 4 stereo channels (8 mono) analog out, and 1 stereo channel (2 mono) in. I also have a MOTU Ultralite which I like a lot better. Lots more inputs and outputs. More expensive tho. RME Fireface is another good one, though even more expensive. Google for Preson...

Since a big breakup with a TV addict a few years ago I've watched..... two F1GPs, and a few hours of cricket. Last time I wanted to turn it on I had to disassemble my TV and clean the dust off the degaussing coil, lest I get that crackle *POP* followed by a funny smell and no operational TV. I read ...

The biggest question I have so far is does it do full audio I/O over the firewire port ? in other words, how many simultaneous ins and outs does it give to the computer? If I can get all of the inputs streaming into live/mspinky/my custom software and 8 channels out output sending from the lappy int...
