Ableton Live London User Group - Please Read

Hi All, I realise this one is a little off topic but I spent years on this forum only looking at the tips and tricks with exploring the rest of it. Wouldn't want anyone to miss this.... Good news for any Live users in and around London. Ableton has agreed to support an official London user group and...

Re: Keys

Without the blue highlighting, if you press a key or move a slider does the midi indicator register that Ableton Live is receiving midi information? The indicator will flash in the top right of the screen.

Re: final mixing

What he just said!! I totally agree. Sometimes you may be happy with just 2 types of bass, sub and low mid. This is an area you will need to devote some time to as the low frequencies of a mix are usually the hardest to get right.

Practice makes perfect.

Re: Best Effects not as standard with Ableton

Audio Damage + 1 Some of their effects are totally unique.

Personally I think Live lacks a really flexible EQ, I like EQ8 but its just a little limited. At the moment i'm a/b'ing Redline EQ and Pro Q, they are both quite new and have a few little bugs but eventually I will pick one of them!

Re: making sounds sound close or far?

To make a sound realistically "swoosh behind you" it would need to be mixed in 5.1

Re: mixing to -12 after project already mixed to 0 ???

Hi, I didn't totally follow the OP's reason for wanting to reduce the track outputs to -12db but I have recently spent some time researching levelling and so far conclude that it is best to aim for -12db throughout the entire chain ie gain staging. Therefore your initial audio should be bought down ...

Re: Mixdown

Sounds like you have set it up just fine to me. If you have the master out on your external mixer wired into your sound card then just set up a new audio channel in live and set the 1&2 inputs of your sound card. Make sure you con't have a loop, ie this new audio channel then going striaght back out...

Re: Buying a new laptop - which component is the most important?

Most likely all of the above. I run a Sony Vaio with 2gb of RAM, 2.4ghz core duo centrino and an echo indigo cardbus. This is more than sufficient.

Re: Keys

1. Click on the midi square in the top right of the screen, everything you can control will go blue, next click on a control you want to assign and then move the slider on your keyboard. Job done.

2. No idea, sorry.

Re: Techno Hi hats

It will have a lot to do with sample selection, you could also use an EQ8 with a notch filter to boost the frequencies by a few db somewhere in the high mids say 4k to 10k. Lastly try the frequency shifter effect and set it to ring mode, have a little play to add some metallic effects to your sound.

Re: Techno Hi hats

Hi,

It sounds like tamborines to me with the attack rolled off a little. Give that a try and perhaps stick a filter delay on the top to fill the pattern out.
