perspective
my perspective is different, maybe because i come out of the rock world where you really just need the right amp and the right guitar. that is, you get the right gear, rather than tweak endlessly. don't get me wrong, i've spent hours using the neve pres to get exactly what i'm looking for, spent mon...

i just made the switch from Mac to PC, couldn't be happier -- like you, i use mostly live and reaktor and, while there are work arounds, it's simply liberating to be able to use multiple instances of anything without having to resample or freeze or whatnot. i think this is particularly the case with...

this is obviously oversimplification, but i think there's a divide between musicians and, for lack of a better word, fetishists. that is, for some people, the gear (and fiddling with it) is the end, like fly fishers who focus solely on making flies rather than fishing (or guitar players who are more...

transferring sets from PC to MAC
i'm working on a project with someone thousands of miles away, we both use live, but different platforms. as i understand it, we can't just open each other's live sets, so we're trying to figure out the easiest way to swap material. emailing freeze files or clips seems workable, but isn't particular...

i dumped logic for live for the very reasons you identify. nothing was easy, and there was tons of functionality i didn't need (so the complexity was wasted). as for all the synths, i've got reaktor and think the combination of operator and simpler suffices in any event. nor are there any logic FX t...

buck the trend
I will buck the trend and say that you should definitely get Reaktor, because you can do so much more with it. Yes, it's far more expensive. And yes, your CPU will weep. But Live makes it easy to get around that (just record the audio from the reaktor track). And while I love operator, I wouldn't th...

RME multiface has resource conflict/Booting Ableton
Off topic, but I've notice a fair number of people here use RME multifaces, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Decided to switch to a PC so I can run multiple instances of Reaktor in Live. Trying to switch my RME multiface from a powerbook to an HP zd8000 laptop, installed updated drivers and flash, W...

i've been thinking alot lately about the links between electronic music and classical, stuff like glass, etc. interesting to me as someone who played forever in bands, jazz and rock, so i think in terms of chord changes. but chord changes don't really work in the electronic world -- too abrupt. inst...

since switching to live 5, i've dumped logic, my motif, just about everything i had. occasionally use reaktor in live, but not much real need. and reason works great with live, but i don't use it much, instead relying on operator. what i find funny is that the thing i like most about live -- workflo...

thanks, but not what i'm asking about
thanks, but this doesn't really get to what i'm asking about, because you still have to hit stop record while i'd rather be playing whatever i'm playing. i'm looking for a way for live to know to punch out after four measures without always setting up points in an arrangement, or having live know th...

default loop size/auto punch-in/out
i've checked the manual, can't figure out if there's a way to either (1) have all loops automaticly cut to the nearest measure or to a specified length or (2) have recording automaticly stop after a fixed length (punch out after a specified number of measures). my only workflow complaint about live ...
