Re: Help with midi feedback in new beat slicer set-up

I am really liking the theory behind this so far. Especially the start-stop aspect. Clever! An alternative way to do this, without clips, and probably messier, would be: Create a rack that has the note length effect parallel to the normal notes. Then you can trigger play buttons, and the moment the...

Re: Help with midi feedback in new beat slicer set-up

and one more slight update... Don't put all the play clips for the slices on the same track afterall. As I soon found out after actually playing fast drops, it means you are likely to hit a new play button before the stop for the other clip gets triggered so you can end up with trailing loops. This ...

Re: Help with midi feedback in new beat slicer set-up

Well I didn't exactly figure out why it was happening, but I did find a way around it. Midi Patchbay! It allows you to create the same feedback loop, however, it allows you to filter incoming channels while simultaneously remapping to a certain channel. This combined with the External Instrument dev...

Re: Help with midi feedback in new beat slicer set-up

Yeah, I realized this will probably be almost impossible to solve without me showing what is going on. Also, this can suffice to show how to do this for those that are curious about it and want to try to do variations on it or use it in your own set-up. Here's what the source loop looks like: http:/...

Re: Help with midi feedback in new beat slicer set-up

I want to add another piece of evidence that I think should help narrow down the problem but to me it just makes no sense: The midi interface I have has 2 ins and 2 outs. Out A is plugged directly into In A (I know this is not standard procedure) and I have a midi keyboard connected to In B. If I ju...

Help with midi feedback in new beat slicer set-up

This problem is going to be somewhat difficult to explain. The project is inspired by some attempts I've seen by others to recreate some of the features of BeatLookup using stock Ableton elements. In particular, I wanted to use multiple Loopers to buffer an audio loop so it will be sliced up automat...

Re: I literally can't believe this is missing....

ok, i've figured something out. this is indeed messed up, unless someone can explain this to me in a way that makes sense. to duplicate the problem i'm having, do the following: * create a blank project * create two midi tracks * on track 1, put an arpeggiator and a synth * on track 2, route the out...

Re: I literally can't believe this is missing....

there is indeed something weird going on here... i'm trying to hone in on exactly what it is that's going on. in certain circumstances, this does and doesn't work. to answer your question, there are reasons why i wouldn't want to put the arp in the other track as you're talking about, but for now i'...

Re: I literally can't believe this is missing....

i think you'e doing something wrong. I can route midi wherever I want to. Can you make a screenshot or a better description of your issue? we might be able to help you. i have no idea what i could have been doing wrong, but trying this again today it does work.... the arpeggiator still doesn't show...

I literally can't believe this is missing....

The ability to route midi from one track to ANY device on another track. I just found out this evening that the arpeggiator does not show up in the list of devices that you can control from a separate track. So if you have a track with an arpeggiator controlling a synth and you want to have a differ...

can't route midi to arpeggiator??

The more I delve into Live, the more things I find that are inexcusably missing. The latest: if you have a midi track that output of which you want to route to a separate midi track which has an arpeggiator as the first device you simply can't do this! You can select the track and then when you go t...

Re: Studio One is leaving Ableton in the dust.

for me it's about the lack of performance control options. live's greatest strength is, as the name suggests, its use as a performance tool. so it makes sense that the ability to control your performance in real time should be as well developed as possible. in terms of ability to automate absolutely...

more midi assign options

quite often i find myself wanting to do things like make one knob be a course control for a parameter with a second knob for fine control. to do this, you'd probably have to allow for both the assigning multiple controls to the same parameter (something you can't do now) and have some additional opt...
