Re: Master auto-mute VST?

Thanks for the help guys, I've settled for a brickwall limiter followed by a gate set to "flip". The gate's attack isn't instantaneous though so I'm still kind worried about that click that comes through. @ciw: I think clicking "flip" switch on ableton's gate does the same thing (not entirely sure t...

Master auto-mute VST?

Recently half of my plugins have started acting up and spitting out extremely loud noise every now and again. It's so noisy the master meter peaks all the way up into the red. Z3ta seems particularly problematic when it comes to this. I was wondering if there is any VST that can automatically mute t...

Corrective EQ on headphones, bad idea?

Is it a bad idea to adjust the overall EQ setting on my laptop when it comes to production? I'm specifically referring to the waves graphic EQ that comes pre-installed on dell xps-15 machines, the ones with a realtek soundcard. I lowered the 30Hz range by about 2dB to get things to sound more balanc...

Re: What are some of the "must have" plugins for producing?

If you have the dance music manual look into it, there's a list of tried and tested plugins in there, Rick Snoman's advice has been nothing but useful so far. They're a bit outdated but still worth their money imo. With that said, soundtoys plugins are highly regarded. And +1 for fabfilter and waves...

Re: Mixing on Headphones

If you're going to use headphones I wouldn't recommend using them for long durations (half an hour max at low volume), I started noticing a bit of tinnitus after doing so myself. It's a good thing I noticed it early and stopped. With that said I really like the AKG K240 MKII's. I have absolutely no ...

Re: Drum layering question (kicks)

This isn't with drumracks, but hopefully you'll find it helpful anyways: I prefer crossfading between 2 different kicks using audio tracks. That way you can avoid phase alignment problems, and it achieves the same result as highpass/lowpassing the 2 kicks. The difference is that you can see how the ...

Re: New laptop sounds different?

Thanks for all the advice. My inspiron has always sounded good with the internal souncard, I can't understand why a laptop that boasts high quality audio would sound like a speaker with a pillow on it. Never saw the need to get an external interface with my inspiron, and considering the xps is a new...

New laptop sounds different?

I recently got a dell xps 15 running windows 7 to replace my inspiron 6400 and I think the audio coming out of it sounds different. Am I going crazy or is it normal for different laptops to have noticably different sound? When using speakers there wasn't a huge difference but the inspiron had punchi...

Shure SRH 440 vs. AKG K240 MKII

I'm looking to replace my shure 440's with more comfortable and open headphones and I've been wondering if anyone here can help me compare the shure 440's to the AKG 250 MKII's (or similar alternatives). I found the shure's very uncomfortable on my head, and they also seemed to cause unusual fatigue...

Re: Is microtonic worth getting?

Thanks for all the advice. Sick track ct43, thanks for sharing. And as for having a hardware version, I was thinking exactly the same thing, wonder what it would look like. Any thoughts on how microtonic compared to waldorf attack? I know for sure that you can make good kicks with attack if you laye...

Is microtonic worth getting?

I'm currently playing with the trial of microtonic and I'm happy with it in terms of the fast workflow, flexibility and interesting sounds. However I'm kind of unhappy with the claps and kickdrums I get out of it. I've used v-station to make decent sounding drums, so I can't decide if I actually nee...

Re: sounds better previewed in browser? why?!

It might be that you have "create fades on clip edges" selected under preferences, it completely sucks the life out of transients.

Edit: Sorry, looks like lunabass already mentioned this.

Re: Best MIDI Controller for Controlling VST's?

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into them. Have you successfully used the UC-33 for complete VST control? The kore controller would be a downgrade in my case, since it has less knobs.
