Re: Got a minute to test a possible new timing problem?
OK, I found out from support what the issue was. At most BPMs, you can't exactly fit a whole number of samples in a bar. (BPMs like 120, 144 and 175 are OK, for example). I was running tests at 145 BPM, so I could see the small inaccuracies from the sample frames being shifted. Anyone testing from f...

Re: general question about audio vs. midi
Stability is an interesting point. I've had software instruments just forget patches. Or make them sound different when you reload the project. If you record to audio you eliminate the chance of that. In D&B bouncing to audio seems to be endemic, with producers creating beats, bouncing down, add...

Re: general question about audio vs. midi
You're using different resources with audio vs. MIDI. You can gum up your hard drive if you have too many audio tracks playing at once. (Even some VSTs can cause problems with the hard drive if you use sample based instruments. Things like Stylus, Atmosphere, Nexus, or just multi-samplers like Sampl...

Re: EQ Eight Upgrade! with analyzer
Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly that a spectrum analyser in the EQ would be great.
I am absolutely loving the idea of sidechaining the spectrum analyser from other channels though.
That would be a tool truly worthy of Ableton Live's workflow.

Create new MIDI clips
Since I first owned Live all those years ago, I've always had a niggle - creating new, empty MIDI clips of a particular length. What would make sense in my head would be to select an area and consolidate, instantly creating a new MIDI clip of the length I desire, ready for me to insert notes. What h...

Re: Repitch sound degradation??
I got exactly this on a few tracks. Funnily enough I was also making a D&B mix. I just used the complex algorithm for the problematic tracks. Seemed to sort it out. I assumed the problem was the fact that D&B relies heavily on enormous bass and lots of distortion. Together I can see these fa...

Re: Low resolution automation quantizing
OK, I've been given a fix by Ableton support - it's a text file called 'options.txt' containing only the following: -_ThinningAggressiveness=0 It needs to be put in the preferences folder. Support say: "You can open the folder like this: In the help menu, choose "get support". In help...

Re: Low resolution automation quantizing
There does seem to be a lot of tequila around doesn't there? In all seriousness, I'm losing all the subtlety of my automations. I can see Ableton drawing in all the lovely automation data as I twist the knobs and record, it just strips it out when I stop recording. It's really frustrating. :( Why wo...

Re: How do I make this sound?
Find some e-keys and electric organ samples online. Rhodes, Wurlitzer and the like. You'll be able to find free ones all over, or house sample CDs (or liquid D&B CDs) are good for them. Put a sample into Simpler and play with the amp evelope until you get a short sound - short attack, short deca...

I've just got this problem on a plug-in.
There doesn't seem to be a setting which relates to it. Any ideas?

Re: Got a minute to test a possible new timing problem?
Found out something else. If you zoom into the beginning of the loop section, the recorded audio looks in time on the first pass. If you zoom into the second beat (or anywhere later on in the loop) the first pass of recorded audio looks out of time. It's like the record speed isn't the same as the p...

Re: Got a minute to test a possible new timing problem?
OK, it's definitely two problems. The great news is that the large delay is fixed using your tip. Nice one, thanks! :) Seems that, at least, was just an amplified version of the same issue. The bad news is that I'm still getting a delay (only a few samples by the looks of it), along with a slow cree...

Re: Got a minute to test a possible new timing problem?
Well the thing about that issue is that although it seems to be 'caused' by having Audio From set to Ext In on the monitoring track, it only actually shows up if you have a plugin in the send. So definitely try setting your Audio From to None I would say. You don't need to turn off delay compensati...
