Re: Trance

Get some good tools. For starters you could try NI Massive, a good kick sample and a decent eq (waves, sonnox). Familiarize yourself with them (edit: as in, really get to know what everything does and how to make good sounds with them). Try to copy the tunes you like and learn from them. Not soundin...

Re: Tips for a clean bass sound? Best VSTs/Synths for bass?

Read and experiment, experiment, experiment. But if you're still not getting the results you want there is no substitute for hands on experience. Can you get someone who you know can produce the bass sound you want, to show you? Even pay for a lesson if needed? You've spent money on your equipment, ...

Re: Tips for a clean bass sound? Best VSTs/Synths for bass?

For the kind of bass in your example (and most other kinds) Massive is pretty good, and also has a preset library that allows searching by tags which helps find the right thing pretty fast. To layer or not to layer, that depends on the genre. Breaks/dnb/dubstep type stuff generally yes; but some oth...

Re: using dummy clips to program change ext instruments...HELP

Hello, I do this in my live set. But not with dummy clips: I use empty midi clips with the track output set to the external device in question. If you wanted to route midi through as well (presumably this is why you are using dummy clips) you can do that in a separate channel; the two midi streams w...

Re: What feature in live 9 would be a game changer for you

Some good suggestions here, particularly delay compensated automation I'll add another: multitouch support. I don't even have a device that supports this myself, but it's so nice making music on the sofa/out of the studio and surely ipad type interfaces have to feature in Live's future. None of thes...

@Khazul I think this is far too in touch with reality for your suggestion to hold much weight :)

@Ryan Basically, yes. Cool, isn't it?

on your master channel put a gate, followed by utility with phz-l and phz-r selected group the two devices into a rack add a 2nd channel to the rack with nothing on it make sure delay compensation is on voila! master will mute any signal that gets through the gate edit: set the attack fast and relea...

Re: Reasons Why You Think People Should Buy Your Music ????

Freedom of choice is undisputable but please answer my question: ok... if you have worked on your live set for months and you have bought all that gear you have, wouldn't be good to have a reward of your work and time spent on the project? Yes, it would be nice (and I have worked on my live set for...

Personally I'll play just because I want to. Though if the promoter happens to be making any money off the gig, then I'd say I'm entitled to my fair share of it.

Re: Reasons Why You Think People Should Buy Your Music ????

Other - I don't believe people should buy my music. There's loads of good, free music out there. Some is free because people pirate it. Some is legally free, and really good. People want to create, and share their creations with others. That's cool, and with respect to music, cheap technology and in...

Re: Basics of mixing Progressive House?

Oh, hang on, did you want to record the mix as a birthday present? I thought you meant you wanted to dj at his birthday. In that case Ableton isn't such a bad choice. Make a set with two tracks, one assigned either side of the crossfader. Put EQ3 on each one. Drop all the tunes straight into arrange...
