Re: Pitch Rise
I would probably send all of tracks that need the pitch shift to a new audio track, then once I felt completely happy with how they sounded I would record them to that audio track, and then afterwards apply the effects/warping needed. You can automate the pitch of audio in Ableton's warping feature,...

Re: getting the reverb on a vocal just right
It also could be the reverb itself doesn't match well with the vocal track. You can play with the settings of the reverb, but I would recommend trying out a few other reverbs to see what will give you the best sound. I think a good music producer should have 3-4 reverbs they're comfortable using. My...

Re: Is not using return tracks bad practice.
I have made tracks where I only had one reverb return, but that's not typical. Most tracks I have three reverbs - typically ableton's built in reverb and omniverb in return tracks. They each sound better depending on the instrument, but together mesh really well. Anything I send to one I send to the...

Re: Realistic Violin sound
I recommend googling "violin sound fonts" and "string sound fonts" There are many different violin, viola, and cello sound fonts out there that sound quite good. I use the SFZ vst sound font plugin in Live to run most of my acoustic sounds (google "SFZ VST" to find the ...

Re: Bad static coming from monitors...
Are you using an audio interface or are you going out through a sound card? When I was still using my laptop or my desktop's sound card I had different noise problems depending on where I plugged in. With the audio interface I have virtually zero noise anywhere (There's a tiny amount of noise when I...

Re: Drum sampling
Insert an audio track, then drag your wav/mp3 into arrangement view. Warp the track so it's in time (youtube search ableton warping if you don't know how to do this), then go and find the part you want, select it, copy and paste it into into a new Simpler.

Re: Skrillex Bass Wobble
I think with dubstep it really comes to being creative in where you place your LFOs, and use of effects. They Yoy tutorial I have posted below gave me an idea that could be done with redux I'd never thought of. Here are a couple of ideas: Dubstep Yoy Vocalish Bassline Dirty Dubstep Bassline and Inte...

Re: The perfect dubstep track (tips please!)
Good dubstep is often done with 3 or 4 different dubstep bassline sounds, a big compressed kick drum, and a big compressed, layered (ie multiple sound samples) snare. Here are some links to some tutorials that I just posted to my website to help get you going: Dubstep Bass Wobble in Operator Dubsetp...

Re: Parametric EQ?
A good question is: why do you want one? It takes hours and hours and hours to learn how to EQ tracks and mixes properly. I've been producing music for almost 3 years and am still far from mastery. I encourage you to learn EQ8 in and out. It gives you control over everything you could think of. Just...

Re: splitting bassline
One thing to note is that a frequency crossover is never transparent. In the analog world, a capacitor or inductor that make up a crossover cause phase shift starting about an octave above the crossover point. In the digital world, the algorithms that cause a separation of the frequencies have a sim...
