Re: Using hardware monosynths - whats your workflow?
I get my MIDI sequenced, play it on a loop and get the sound design on the synth. Then, I set it up to record on a track and record it dry. Then I may throw it through a hardware effect/pedal and record. Then I might take the original dry and record it again, this time automating some of the synth p...

Re: Need help with buying next piece of equipment!!
So I own a launchpad mini and love it! I'm able to make drum beats and synth melodies on 64 different pads...the only thing is, I can't really do much with the sounds because I don't own a launch control... However, I thought for my birthday I would ask my parents to buy me a new piece of equipment...

Re: Buying vintage kit online questions
In my experience, you won't get a service history and in many cases a picture of the inside - at least not for vintage synths/drum machines. They may have exchanged hands on multiple occasions where one owner doesn't know the prior service history. You can ask, and they might be able to tell you wha...

Re: Vinyl Sampling Setup For My Rig
Thanks guys. I have heard a lot of good things about that specific Shure cartridge. I looked on my local Craigslist and saw a bunch of old turntables but most needed new needles or cartridges. I did see a Crosley Cruiser but I think that's a little short on what I need. Thanks for recommending the ...

Re: Vinyl Sampling Setup For My Rig
Yes, you want a phono preamp between the table and the interface, or you could go with a mixer with a turntable preamp and the out from the mixer into your interface. As far as a turntable...I use my Technics 1210's, but many would suggest a higher fidelity turntable. The cartridge will play a big p...

Re: LIVE 9.2b1 Discuss....
The issue to me isn't the number of tracks. I would like to think although I have no experience with this, that Live can handle 100 audio tracks. But people have to realize that the processing done on each of these tracks is what's likely killing their abilities to work in this fashion. (I'm curious...

Re: LIVE 9.2b1 Discuss....
I did some initial tests. I did not test the automation latency compensation but I just tested the feature that annoys me the most: sluggishness with project that has a lot of VST plugins (and load / unload times). Unfortunately it seems that virtually nothing has improved in this issue. I created ...

Re: Studio desk against wall or in the middle of the room?
thank you everyone. fishmonkey, I did a sinewave test a few weeks ago. As I suspected, I dont get good bass listening. I am always fighting with bass being all over the place. Some notes resonate terribly and others are muted. What I dont understand is - shouldnt the phenomenon apply to mixed relea...

Re: Studio desk against wall or in the middle of the room?
Middle of the room is too far. The problem with placement away from walls is SBIR - basically bass reflections off the wall behind the speaker. Lower frequencies emanate from speakers in a sphere in all directions (whether rear ported or not) while higher frequencies are more directional. Lower freq...

Re: New to Music Production need some help :)
So I love the trap, dubstep, remix sort of genres and recently I wanted to attempt making some of my own so I got the abelton live 9 trial to check it out because I know Flume and Skrillex use it. I looked at a bunch of able tons tutorials and some online on YouTube but I'm still kind of confused. ...

Re: Audio Interface technicalities-help me understand!
The biggest changes you may see since you use solely VSTs, is perhaps better latency and driver support/stability.
Unless you're really struggling with latency or crap drivers, seems like a waste of money.

Re: does the mix on my track sound commercial quality?
Yep, claps are weak to my ear. Also, the vocal in the first 45 seconds or so seems like it could use more presence - EQ boost in the 2 - 6 kHz range - see what sounds best? Finally, it could use more width. There's a bit of width in the last section, but still not enough IMO. There are numerous way...

8 Foot Beefstick (Deep House) (Free d/l)
This is for a competition I sometimes enter over at KVR where you have to create all the sounds using only one soft synth and use only free effect plugs or the plugs that came with your DAW. This month it was u-He's new Hive which is still in beta, but if you want to see what it's capable of besides...
