Re: Apple's Logic for iPadOS. Ableton, your move. :)

I never clicked with music apps on the iPad. I might be already too old, but touchscreens don't speak to me, probably mostly because you can't do anything without looking at the screen, and because I feel like simple mouse/trackpad and keyboard/shortcuts are miles away in term of haptics. The one i...

Re: Turning Long mp4 into sequential 10 minute wav files.

To do what you want is likely to be a lot easier using an app such as Audacity (which is free, open source and well-maintained by an active community).

Re: significance of a waveform above the zero line

You’re very welcome, and thank you for asking the question.

It’s fun to have an excuse now and then to take a moment and think about how to say things that I too often take for granted :)

Re: significance of a waveform above the zero line

What fishmonkey said. I would add to that still another way of thinking about it. The ‘absolute’ air pressure – think weather – does not appreciably affect the sounds you hear. Sitting inside your studio, a given waveform will sound essentially the same regardless of whether there is, outside the wi...

Re: significance of a waveform above the zero line

Hmm, no, not exactly. Every waveform will have some parts above the average and some below the average. This is, after all, the nature of averages. And the DC offset is, in essence, just the average amplitude of a waveform. So it isn’t that the parts above and below the average (i.e., above and belo...

Re: significance of a waveform above the zero line

This is known as a DC offset (or a number of other similar terms): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_bias . It is generally bad in audio, but it can be removed by subtracting (or adding) the DC offset from every sample. After doing so the ‘new’ DC offset will be zero. Edit: That said, you are correct...

Re: CPU Maxing Out INEXPLICABLY

Agreed about trying to copy tracks into a new set or project as well as trying the original set on a different computer. The former is an especially good test and might even be a solution. Beyond this I might try changing the buffer size in audio preferences to see if this has any effect, but this i...

Re: CPU Maxing Out INEXPLICABLY

It is also worth noting that Live’s CPU meter is really not a CPU meter at all, it is a (poorly named) measure of the audio buffer load: Different CPU value in Activity Monitor/Task Manager . Edit: There is also per-track CPU metering in Live 11. Although this appears to also refer to audio buffer l...

Re: Push 2 limited to session view

In order to save Valiumdupeuple from needing to push it himself, you might want to look at the handy PAM (Push-ArrangeMode) M4L device.

Re: Lives way of organizing songs saved is too complicated

I’ve always explained this ‘feature’ of Live to myself as being related to the distinction between Live Projects and Live Sets. In Live’s mind you want to save new sets into the same project as before, which almost kinda makes sense 8O

Re: Demo songs?

You’ve probably already seen this, but there are some great ideas from a wide variety of artists shared directly by Ableton: https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/.

The ones categorised as ‘Downloads’ often have demo sets, etc.

Re: I'm LOVIN' Live, but.........

"hey pay for something else M4L" Your signature says that you have Suite, in which case you already have M4L. The only reason to pay anything more would be for the 'crossgrade' to a full Max license, which you are unlikely to need for working within Live. That said, a quick comparison of ...
