This would be a deviation from the Ableton Live core concept of simplicity that has been in place since before version one. Try importing as "raw" audio data. Not sure if SF can do it, but I would imagine so. Basically this means that any header data is ignored and the wave editor automatically determines big-endian or little-endian formatting, as well as sample rate and word length.
