If you only have one sample per note, then you don't have "multisamples", you just have samples. You would be fine just mapping them to the corresponding MIDI note in a drum rack, or in Impulse even, and then playing them. You will only be controlling velocity and cutoff, but it will let y...

Does anyone have anything more specific that might help? I guess it could be nothing but jitter, but I though that the MIDI sync operation would keep working to make the slave machine match tempo with the master. What it sounds like is that the only thing synchronized is the start up, and the two sy...

I got sync working between two laptops running Live. We used a MBP running 7.0.7 and an iBook running 6.x and were able to make tempo changes on the MBP and have the iBook reflect the change, and the sync would work at first, but the two machines would drift out of sync. We were running audio to the...

Isn't U.S.B still a bit faster than Fire wire???? I will check out the unit when I go to the store this weekend. On paper USB has higher throughput, but that is one way only. Firewire runs at full speed bidirectionally, and is faster at sustained data transfer regardless of direction. I like my lit...

Did you try mapping one CC from your controller to all of the track faders? You might have to play with the takeover mode to get it to work correctly, but that would be the first thing I would try.

I strongly suggest getting the best raw signal down on the track as you can, then worry about post processing after that. You can use a simple DI if the interface expects a lo-Z signal, or you can use a simple mixer to act as a pre and gain control before hitting the input. Once you have that bass t...

I'm doing all of my work in Live now, including live multitracking, post production, and clip based projects. I'm really happy with the plugins, presets, racks, and the interface is OK. I kinda miss having both the waveform view and the vertical-fader mixer section in one place, but I'm adapting to ...

Is anyone getting around this by using Live as a host for SooperLooper, or something similar? I do a lot of live looping using stomp-loopers and Live doesn't do what they do. Back a year or more ago I had a fellow bass player tell me that Live did sound-on-sound and that it was a better option than ...

I have not been able to make a working example due to a general lack of free time, but you can change the time sig for a clip, or all clips in a scene, then ignore the grid and have the 4/4 section play. As long as you work in multiples of say, 12, then you can fit three bars of 4/4 in the space of ...

If you are importing the tracks then the project tempo is basically meaningless. Turn quantize off, then see how everything lines up. Look at the waveform and not the grid. Making your imported project align to the tempo grid is a completely different problem. Once you have everything lined up, whic...

I don't use it for monitoring, but for live work I will run my mix through my RNC on the way to the power amp. It keeps the output from the DAW from randomly blasting the PA speakers during live work, and the overall mix out front sounds a LOT better.

Igor, Once you record session clips into arrangement they are on their own. Changes to the session clip will not be reflected in the arrangement. You could write over the old arrangement part by enabling the drum part only, then recording the new one over it. Getting used to the difference between t...

Re: Compositional processes using modern digital technology

Hi all I'm doing a project for Uni, the aim of which is to investigate a number of paradigms of digital music creation, using different software. I'm interested in how these paradigms affect the process of music composition itself. I'm particularly interested in comparing these processes to more tr...
