Advantage with Avira is it has a kick ass firewall to boot About the different partition thing, it kind of true but if your drive fails it all fails, doesn't matter if you have parti...

Regarding the Asus boards I don't think any of the new range actually has TI chipsets for Firewire. Abit and Gigabyte are the only ones

I'd get a Gigabyte P35 (DQ6) if you can afford or if not one of the cheaper versions

Maybe the drivers for the macbook pro and xp aren't that great?

Did you try under OSX?

I've read here that the chips run hotter on the Macbook Pros and Xp than MBP and OSX, maybe there's a correlation?

If I were getting a OS for free i'd get Vista Ultimate 64 bit, then if you want go out and buy a copy of XP Pro (32 or 64 bit) if you're not happy with the performance of Vista....... make sure you get a copy of the OEM Vsta as well though

I'm getting my new setup soon, I've done research and they are all great components without going stupidly over the top: CoolerMaster Stacker 832 SilverStone ST60F 600w Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 C2D E6600 Arcti...
