Re: Windows 8?
Some good points made above... As for subscription models for Windows, I doubt that will fly. I am reducing my Adobe footprint due to their CC subscription model. I'm even trying to get rid of the free Adobe products because I hate the subscription model so much! XP was indeed a very good OS in its ...

Re: LoJack for Laptops - gets along with Live, anyone knows?
Hello and sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. Yes, Lojack for Laptops works fine with Live. I installed LFL early after I bought my laptop in 2011. No problems, and after a year I bought a 3 year subscription. Mine is similar, it shows my laptop about a mile away from my physical location. But it...

Re: Computer specs: i5 vs i7
Get the i7. Yes, even if you have to save for a few weeks more. Yes, even if you have to skip a few meals. Yes, even if you have to watch your girlfriend eat while you chew on ice cubes. ...but don't make her skip any meals. There's no way you'll win at that, and no way you'll be able to explain it ...

Re: Windows 8?
How time goes. People on the cutting edge are already not getting Windows 10 now. Funny. But I plan to evaluate it, when time permits. And if I think it's a good move, then I'll transition when it becomes available. I always want to know what's available. If I ever live to 90, I hope I'll...

Re: Windows 8?
^ sucks that you have to modify it to make it work for you. "Sucks" and "modify"? I "customized" it. Which you do all the time in your own life. You maybe even have customized your installation of Ableton Live to ahem, "make it work for you." Have you purchased any of the Live packs? Oh, that must ...

Re: Rock bands, drum plug-ins, and pro studios
I would argue that many bands that record now use drum samplers and even VST instruments when recording the song, or maybe at least for making a demo. Maybe for some of the drum and percussion parts, maybe for the whole thing. Depends on the song, depends on the band. Make the damned song; get it do...

Re: Windows 8?
Windows 8 and now 8.1 have been very reliable for me.
Many foundational improvements have been made. Although I do recommend the use of Classic Shell until we get a full and proper return of the start menu.
I never have to see the metro tiles. Is working fabulously.

Re: NI Komplete Kontrol
It would have been nice if they somewhat went with the Maschine approach where you don’t have to look at the computer at all. Add a small touch screen for tag filter, browsing and sound selection, and favorites grouping and selection. This wouldn’t replace a DAW but would be perfect for performance...

Re: NI Komplete Kontrol
Well, I've seen all the glossy brochures and I think this is a trip I want to take! For anybody who has Komplete 9 Ultimate or Komplete 10 Ultimate, that's a lot of instruments that will be immediately compatible with the controller. I really REALLY like the lights above the keybed that show you the...

Re: NI Komplete Kontrol
I just noticed the color-coded LEDs just above the keys. If these change color to match the currently-loaded instrument's keyranges, then this will be a very powerful controller for people who make heavy use of NI instruments or 3rd party instruments that use NI libraries and players, for example So...

I am looking forward to seeing the capabilities of this new controller from NI. And I have about 10 controllers already, yikes!

Re: Using Ableton 64 bit?
I've just installed x64 Live this week (alongside 32 bit) due to crashes with memory problems. So far no problems (as long as you have 64 bit VSTs). ...and THIS ^ should be enough reason to go 64 bit. Ableton should also consider changing their language on the matter; cause the current FUD policy (...

Re: lower CPU load on 64 bit?
Contrary to Ableton's disclaimers about 64 bit, I believe that you probably will see some performance improvements. The word size in 64 bit and ability to reference larger memory address spaces in larger page sizes will halve the number of I/O operations to do just about any thing requiring an... (w...

Re: Good digital audio editor?
by the by.........what is this "subscription" stuff and what does it mean for someone who just wants to clean up some audio? (nothing major) Yeah, Adobe is moving to subscription services for just about everything that's not free. I don't like subscriptions because they slowly eat away at the month...
