A little more troubleshooting seems to point to buggy MOTU drivers with Windows 8. It's being replaced with a Babyface.

about using packs from beta vs downloading again. i (and i'm sure many others) noticed that the packs have version names. if it's the same version as you downloaded previously according to the file name, i seriously doubt you need to download again.
