Video playback is super slow, massive CPU usage
I ripped a DVD to an m4v video and have it loaded into Live so that I can sample audio from it. It's a full-length movie so the video is long, nearly two hours and the file size is around 1.4 gigs. My system is a new MacBook Pro, 2.8 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 gigs of ram and 2 Nvidia video cards. ...

Re: Recommend me a nice LCD monitor for PC
Depends on your budget of course, but I really like the 24" Dell UltraSharp I use at work. Thinking about getting one to replace my monitor at home though I believe there is a slightly newer model that I would go with.

Hot swap preview mode
It would be great if the Hot Swap function had an option to preview a sample as though it were swapped WITHOUT actually swapping it. For example, let's say I have a drum loop and I want to try out some new snares. To hear my loop with a new sample I have to use Hot Swap to apply the sample to my loo...

Re: Automating external synth's CC makes it go crazy
So I never did figure this out. BUT recently I switched from my PC to a MacBrook Pro and I do not have this problem. I can automate my Ion parameters with no problems. Weird!

Buggy playback of external synth in arrangement view
This is a strange problem I've been having. In the past I've worked on a PC but recently switch to a MacBook Pro. The problem has been occurring in both operating systems, both running Live 8.0.4. I have an external synth (Alesis Ion) set up on an External Instrument device. When I work in the Sessi...

MIDI problems - stuck notes and random parameter changes
I have an Alesis Ion set up as an External Instrument in Live. When its time to export my song, I randomly run into a bug where the Alesis Ion notes will stick. I have to cancel the export and retry. Whether or not the notes stick seems to happen at random. They will also stick sometimes when simply...

Can anyone review my potential computer setup?
So I am leaving the land of my desktop PC for the pastures of a portable Mac machine. I really want to go portable and am looking forward to starting from scratch. This is what I want to put together: - Apple MacBook Pro 17-inch, 2.66GHz, 4GB Memory - FireWire MOTU UltraLite-mk3 audio interface - Ab...

Alternate VST sequencer for Live?
Is anyone familiar with some kind of VST sequencer that one could use as a replacement for Live's default sequencer? Specifically I am looking for something with decent automation options. Any time I try and automate my external synth in a Live clip the sound gets trashed (I believe its an NRPN issu...

MIDI from external synth is off by one octave?
Any idea why hitting C5 on my keyboard would be recorded in Live as C4? I had the same problem with my Korg Nanopad and had to go into the Nanopad settings and alter each pad assignment by one octave. Thanks!

Re: Interfaces - USB or FireWire?
Right now I tend to only record one instrument at a time, an external synth. But one of the reasons I want to move to a laptop is so I can bring my rig to a buddy's place and record with him and potentially another musician, in which case we'd probably be bringing in 3 instruments at once. But if Fi...

Interfaces - USB or FireWire?
I'm looking to buy a new machine, most likely a laptop, which means I'll have to get a new audio interface. I currently have an EMU 1820 which I love, but its PCI. I do hate to see it go, but could use a faster machine and something portable. There's all this talk about FireWire being dead now that ...

Re: korg nano's
I use my Nanopad as a percussion controller and that's about it. I set up the first 3 scenes to reflect Battery's on-screen pads, and used Scene 4 for Live's Drum Rack pads. I enjoy it so far but even with the velocity curve tweaked it seems like I have to hit the thing pretty hard to get a sound out.
