Re: What should i expect from a music technology course

IMHO the only benefit of a course is that it puts you in to contact with other like-minded people. In terms of pure learning, it's all there on the net, you need but only search for it, no need for a course, it's all there if you're motivated enough to find it. Of course if you have motivation probl...

How to gate audio with key on / off?

Here's the scenario: I'm playing a short percussive sound (by hitting C3 on my keyboard), with loads of delay FX and reverb on it. Nothing too unusual so far. But........what i want is that when i release C3, the audio stops / mutes, including the delay and reverb. Obviously i could bounce my sound ...

Re: Quantize clip start points to grid in arrange view?

The workaround solution: Step 1: install Midi Yoke S2: run MidiTrix (you don't install it, you just need to run it each time) S3: route your midi controller input to MidiYoke 1 & MidiYoke 2 in the MidiTrix matrix S4: create a new Ableton set S5: create two midi tracks, let's call them A & B ...

Re: Triggering clips: is this possible?

i'd like to try this method of recording clips, to see what advantage it holds. any chance you could post the set-up procedure? OK, here we go: Step 1: install Midi Yoke S2: run MidiTrix (you don't install it, you just need to run it each time) S3: route your midi controller input to MidiYoke 1 &am...

Re: Quantize clip start points to grid in arrange view?

To the OP: what you want to do is possible, i got it working today. You need to trigger your clips from midi notes (which you recorded earlier) on another track (which you can quantize to your heart's content).........it's rather complicated and a bit of a brain-fart, but it works. You need to insta...

Re: Fabfilter Saturn

I have tried out the demo. I am a bit underwhelmed. The mod options are very good and easy to set up, but the basic distortion algorithms are all a bit samey and uninspiring except for the special effects ones, which are perhaps too much the other way. I would imagine having to stack other effects ...

Re: Triggering clips: is this possible?

Also investigate dummy clips and midi loopback, midiyoke or IAC. I have done some of what you are describing using that method. You'll need to use multiple midi channels one for remote control, one for playing notes. Thanks for the tip, Oddstep. I imagine it'll be be possible through some kind of l...

all you have to do is trigger the clips, with global record on, and record into the arrangement.

you can choose the quantize value before you play them in, or line them up in the arrange using the mouse.
Thanks, but that won't give me the functionality outlined in my earlier posts.

Re: Triggering clips: is this possible?

Sorry but I can't figure out what u actually mean. U want C3 in ch1 to trigger a slot and simultaneously to be recorded as A MIDI note on a clip ? What i mean is this: I want to trigger clips on track A (containing one-hit chords) from my Akai MPK49, and i want to record that in the arrange view. L...

Re: Triggering clips: is this possible?

yes, the MIDI trigger is like a mapping function. A way to cancel it temporary is to deactivate and reactivate the remote in, at your piano's port. Thanks! But then is it possible to (via a workaround) achieve the functionality outlined in my original post? Via some kind of loop or converter or hac...
