And this would be to distinguish between more than one APC connected I am guessing?

The colour of the focus box around the clips in session view changes depending on which line (1 to 5) that you list your APC as control surface in the preferences menu.

Do you need to monitor tracks? You may need a 2 in/ 4 out soundcard - does the NI Audio 2 have that? Since i switched from pro tools and no longer record live instruments, my digi002 rack has been laying idle while i use the NI Audio 2 all the time, just so easy, set it up and forget it.
