Re: Plugins sound different with Ableton Live 10

Live does not add distortion by itself, so there has to be something in your gain structure or plugin settings that's creating the distortion. It could be that the signal entering the plugin is too "hot" - try putting a Utility effect in front of the amp plugin and use that to reduce the g...

Re: Is it safe to move my projects from "Macintosh HD" to "iCloud Drive"?

Time Machine is the built-in Mac tool for automated backups. Though it can be rather enthusiastic and you probably don't want it frantically trying to back up projects every hour while you're working on them. The free tool Time Machine Editor can be used to schedule Time Machine to e.g. run once per...

Re: No sound when exporting - help!

This is an educated guess rather than a definitive solution. What may have happened is that the USB mic is seen by both Windows and Live as an audio interface. Which means for some reason outgoing audio is being sent to the mic, not to wherever you expect it to go. So when you play back the exported...

Re: Ableton keeps crashing on Catalina

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but Live 10 stubbornly fails to crash on my Catalina installation. So far, anyway. It’ll probably start crashing all the time now I’ve said that. One thing I don’t do which seems like it might be related to the crash issue is allow anything to go to sleep while Liv...

Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support

I hope Ableton aren't as "secretive" about this as they are with news about new versions/features. The risk for software companies, especially when making things as ccomplex as DAWs or professional image/video editing software, is that there’s only one thing that annoys customers more tha...

Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support

As well as software the M1 Macs are going to need hardware drivers. Modern class compliant hardware should work though. One would certainly hope so. Though there’s still lots of audio/music related hardware that does need specific drivers, including audio interfaces unless Apple have found a way to...

Re: I am toying with building a Mac Pro 2012 :: Build newb

Why a 2012 vintage Mac Pro? They’re outdone in terms of performance by the upper end of the iMac range and have been for some years. Your best option, in terms of retaining your sanity if nothing else, might be to see if you can buy a used “dustbin” Mac Pro at a decent price rather than bravely atte...

Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support

As well as software the M1 Macs are going to need hardware drivers. It will be interesting to see how many manufacturers provide suitable drivers - if they even provide drivers for older hardware at all - and when. My answer to the conundrum was a 2020 i9 iMac on the grounds it’s usable now and shou...

Re: Combining Midi and Audio recorded from an External Synth

You could load a software synth and point the MIDI track at that. Though that would make having the hardware synth pointless because you wouldn’t be using it.

Re: Is My PC capable of Running Ableton 10?

I suspected something like that might potentially be the cause, or part of the cause, of your problems. Unfortunately DPC issues often can't be resolved by increasing the cpu's speed or number of cores, so even a very fast and powerful PC can suffer ill effects from them when running DAW software. I...

Re: Is My PC capable of Running Ableton 10?

I’m a Mac user but I can’t see any obvious reason why your PC couldn’t run Live 10. Though it might need some tuning to run it well, some PCs seem to be able to run DAWs without problems while others benefit from some tweaking. Downloading and running latencymon.exe might help pinpoint any PC/Window...

Re: Latency on New MacBook pro

What are you using as an audio interface?

What is the audio driver buffer set to in Live’s preferences? Ideally you need to get it below around 10 milliseconds or thereabouts on the output side (the input buffer only affects incoming audio).

Re: HELP! Weird Ableton Problem (MIDI changing pitch)

I think you have the same problem I did and I figured it out - definite bug. Not necessarily a bug, could well be a deliberate design decision made for sensible reasons. For example. Let’s say I record a clip using a MIDI CC to slowly open a synth’s filter. When I start recording the next clip do I...
