Mackie mixers are awesome. In fact, they're so good that I might even trust the onboard effects, although generally I'd agree that it's way better to keep them separate from the board.

All my truly geeky friends are telling me to wait until next year.

OK, I'll bite. M-Audio Axiom 25. I think they even make a backpack for just this purpose.
