Re: Are "breakdowns" 100% necessary in Electronic Music?
Not sure you'll ever get science to answer "why"... you could maybe get an evolutionary something half-answer, it helped us on the savannah because the girls who felt the music more and danced better got the guys with the better genes, whatevs, but nothing closer than hat.. and you're righ...

Re: Are "breakdowns" 100% necessary in Electronic Music?
It's been known for a long time that there is nothing new under the sun. I'm a linguist by day (and night, really), so I've spent a good chunk of my time worrying about how meaning works in language, and come to (read and accepted) the conclusion that meaning is always ascribed by the hearer with no...

Re: What is your favorite key to write in?
I've stopped giving a toss, really. I just bang my head or other body part against the keyboard in the rhythm I want the part in and then delete notes at random. Whatever is left, over 9000% of times if a note sounds completely off you just nudge it a semitone in either direction and it's fine. It h...

This made me really sad to hear. Beastie Boys were a huge influence on me when I was younger and they always seemed like such cool guys.

Re: Open multiple audio files to separate tracks (for mixing)?
Just drag them in from the browser?
You don't have to add a new track before adding audio to it. Just drag audio in below existing tracks and Live will add a new one.
You might be able to select more than one file at a time in the browser by holding shift and dragging them in, but I don't remember.

Re: gangster rap created by owners of private prisons??
hope so. I've rethought this and maybe it isn't completely ridiculous that this took place as I first thought. What is ridiculous, though, is the idea that listening to rap music makes people go out and commit crimes. where the hell have you been? 8O Here and there :) Making music and running Live ...

Most waveform editors will have a "fade in" function. You might be able to that to each note.

There are work-arounds, yeah. Sends or just bussing works, also just grouping a track with itself, and putting the effects on the group.

Feedback within a rack using compressor sidechains
Not sure if this is common knowledge, but it was a bit of a revelation to me so I thought I'd make a thread about it: Make a rack with two chains and put a compressor at the beginning of each (or wherever, I suppose) Set the sidechain of each to the Post FX output of the other, enable pre-listen, tu...

Re: Another laptop thread - Opinions on Lenovo laptops?
I have a Lenovo X200 that I bought in early 2009. I honestly hope I never have to replace it. It feels incredibly sturdy, is a nice size to carry everywhere, it looks nice, runs smoothly, it's easy to find and replace parts if something breaks. The keyboard is great and I prefer the trackpoint to an...

http://nisbeth.dk/niklas/studio120415.jpg Took this for another thread and figured I might as well put it here. I've come quite a way since the guitar and iBook i first posted to this thread in 2004... Mono Evolver Keys, Waldorf MicroWave XT (limited gray edition) on top of a Yamaha TX81Z. The spea...
