I don't know which models fit best to your computer, but regarding performance, I've heard that the best performance comes from OWC and OCZ.

I want to make a compressor follow the peaks and lower the volume without actually compressing the signal, just lowering the level. The effect I'm after is the same that happens when I just lower the volume by hand on a mixerboard. As I understood, compressor doesn't do anything if ratio is 1:1, but...
