I should add, this app was pretty much designed to be used in conjunction with Ableton Live + Impulse. Just reduce the window size and stick it on "always on top" mode, browse through the samples, then drag them onto the Impulse pads. Far more efficient than Live's built in browser and you...

Free audio sample librarian/organizer/auditioner for Windows

Hey all... for those that don't know, I'm a programmer as well as a DJ/producer. One of the free tools I've written is here: http://auralprobe.sourceforge.net I've just added a new version so thought it might be worth sharing. Full release notes in the thread below. Enjoy! Aural Probe is a sample li...

That's another reason it's good to just install one plugin at a time and get familiar with it before you move onto adding another one. Not only do you learn to use it properly, but if Live starts crashing, you know where to point the finger.

It really depends on the synth you're working with. Some synths are quite good at letting you specify if the LFO should run free or reset on MIDI events... more often than not though, the easiest thing to do is just bounce it to audio. Same goes for any other unpredictable plugins.. they can be grea...

Track routing leading to incorrect plugin delay compensation

Hey everyone, I'm running Live 7. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem too: With plugin delay compensation turned on, if I create a complex plugin chain (let's call it SYNTH) and route its output to a new track BUS1, then route BUS1's output to Master, it correctly compensates for pl...

If you wanted to use Live for ideas and Logic for the final mixdown, I'd say the best way to work would be to build up your loops in Live then Render -> All Tracks to WAVs, then load those up in Logic and continue the session. (You can use this approach for any sequencer on any platform.) To be hone...

If you want real distortion ... I would avoid VST's Disagree completely. NI Guitar Rig + Izotope Trash can produce some absolutely amazing results, I use Trash in nearly all of my tracks now. If I had to recreate that synth sound, I'd try taking a standard sawtooth synth (fast attack + release, no ...

Sometimes redux can sound really sibilancey as well, if you give a narrow cut at one or more points between 5-9KHz it can make the sound less harsh on your ears.

Think of it this way - better to have a completely clean signal path to go through rather than being forced into a filthy gritty one. You can always add the filth + grit later - how you do it is up to you.

Don't dither at all, just save the track at (at least) 44/24 with enough headroom in it so the mastering engineers have something to work with. They'll add the dither when they bounce it to 44/16.

Absolutely true - the Phat Conductor tells it like it is. (Although you'll definitely need decent monitors, a decent soundcard and a decent room with good acoustics.)

Problem is when you forget to save as a different filename and overwrite the template. Will Live warn you if the als file it's trying to write to is read only?
