I guess there isn't a lot of happy people over att Steinberg and Digidesign HQs tonight...even Ableton HQ might feel a little depression coming on.

The total plug in suite for Logic is completely amazing. Buying all that stuff as stand alone plugs would cost you a fortune.

Doesn't Live save all freezes as 32 bit files? If so, then multiple renders won't degrade anything. The saved file will be identical to what is generated live. Even if it saves them as 24 bits (if that is you selected format), the degradation will probably be so small that it won't be noticeable whe...

If you really want the maximum horsepower, you want the fastest Intel quad core you can afford. I have no idea of Apple's pricing, but if you build your own PC, a quad core CPU is less than USD 100 more than a dual core (for a 2.8 or so GHz CPU). What counts for speed is the CPU, not the OS. Perhaps...

The third option is the one usually used: Render to Disk. Renders the Master track to a file.

You can assign a button to select a track. I don't have Live in front of me, but perhaps that will display the clip?

You can assign a buttons (pads) to up/down instead of a knob. That way you can go one step at a time.

Perhaps another skin would show the selected row more clearly?

If you have CPU to spare, there shouldn't be any difference. Personally, I prefer to do my feeble attempts to do "mastering" on a rendered file. Partially to have as much CPU as I want, partially because it is much easier to set up A/B listening with approximately equal levels (important!)...

To clarify, by default Live assumes that you want to play everything in sync with a 4/4 beat. This means triggered clips won't start until the beginning of the next complete 4/4 sequence.

Of course you can override this any way you want by changing the global or clip quantize settings.

Create empty very short midi clips with just the program change and name them after the patch. Drag them to a folder in the browser. Then you will have all your patches ready to just drag to the start of a track.

You will also need some sort of audio interface with two (stereo) outs, so you can connect one to the PA and use one for cueing.

Check out the performance test thread and judge for yourself.

But the answer seems to be "no". OSX is no more efficient than XP, and perhaps even a (small) tad slower.

You can always tape the grounding prongs on you mains connector(s). That is equivalent to the cheap plug in the picture above.
