Why does the BPM change?

Can anyone help with this. I improvise and record some beats into ableton. Then I open the recorded material in sound forge by pressing edit in the sample box. I edit out a 4 beat bar and save it and then open that sample in ableton. The original recording was at 120BPM the edited sample is at 80 bp...

right .. thankyou I see how it works now. Is there are a part in the manual where it tells you this?
I think beacuse at certain times the midi level meters change to look like audio meters I was assuming you could record on the midi track. Clearly not. It makes sense to me now.
Thanks very much

recording VST instruments

I'm sure I'm being dumb here but I can't work out how to record the audio coming from VST instrument.
EG I put reaktor into a midi track. Set up a drum machine instrument and want to record the audio from it. How do I do this. I can get to record midi but not audio.
Help please

what am I doing wrong

Could someone put me right here please.
I create a drum beat in Reaktor and record it to Sound forge. then I cut it in SF and create a loop.
Load into Ableton and it plays slower. Now the BPM all along has been 120 so why does it change?
What am I doing?
Thanks for your help
