Re: 12 ways to triple your productivity & make more tunes.

Personally I find setting myself stupid challenges or trying something which has nothing to do with writing a song to a more productive way of going about things. Try making the hugest kick drum of all time or something and eventually your mind will start to wander away from the task in hand. This ...

This really got me thinking. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to read through it again before commenting on the specifics but this is really helpful stuff. Thanks again.

Re: Recommendation for a decent piano sample set/plugin?

If anyone's interested, I just decided to go with the Galaxy Vintage D after seeing multiple recommendations for it and, just after playing with it for 30 minutes and still barely able to play a C or Am scale with two hands at the same time, I have to say, Wow! Nice. I'll have to check that out. I ...

Re: Live 9 will be for OSX only!

[bait] In an effort to improve reliability and free up tech-support resources, Ableton is dropping support for Windows based operating systems in Live 9. Discuss. [/bait] Is this for real Tarekith? I assume it's not. That would be an odd, and very unpopular move. And what's this about Apple droppin...

Re: Something to make all of you sound designers think

Gentle filter, volume, reverb and foley (footsteps and ambience in the alley: wind? distant traffic? people passing by?) I would try to design it "backwards": how does it sound inside the club (PA, reverb, crowd chatter). When I think it's realistic, I'd figure out how that sound would be...

Re: Something to make all of you sound designers think

Two little things jump out for me: Hermanus chain idea, 1 filtered w/ the freq. automated & quickly fade in the dry chain. If you already have M4L, the free DJTechTools Mapulator would work for a drawing a custom bezier curve: http://www.djtechtools.com/2012/02/16/mapulator-advanced-midi-mapping...

Re: Favourite new ANALOGUE synth?

The Moog Minotaur intrigues me for this (long winded) reason: I have a DSI Tetra, but I honestly use it mostly as a mono bass synth, a Mopho basically. For one thing, I'm just not that good at programming polysynths, I get too carried away tweaking. A lot of times I'll just do sound design off recor...

Re: R.I.P. Whitney Houston

The first thing I think about is, drugs can get the best of anyone. Really have to feel for people in that way. Very sad. The second thing is how the era Whitney Houston made music in might affect her long term legacy. A peerless vocal talent, in an over produced pop/R&B era. Imagine someone of ...

Re: Pro-L Limiter questions - self mastering.

There are some mastering videos on the Fabfilter YouTube page. For instance, the metering in Pro L video is helpful, shows how to use the K System.

Re: What's this snare sound please?! C'mon drum machine experts!

Like Ben_Binary, my first thought was 606 - but then the note of the snare does sound like 808, the white noise part doesn't. The rest of the kit seems to be a CR78, especially the hat & cymbal. So my guess is CR78. As levimoniz says though, it could be a variety of early drum machines. Love th...

Interesting. I'm not familiar with the Roland DR-110. I'll have to check it out, thanks.

Just noticed in MicroTonic, there's a snare drum called EM SD 1984Korg that sounds a lot like it. So, perhaps a Korg :o
