I'm afraid I'm having the same issue on my laptop. On win 7 64 running both 8.3 and 8.4.b both reproduce the same thing. Every 30 minutes or so in to a session the CPU hits up to 100-500 % and Ableton freezes. Win CPU meters or Speccy/reatemp show nothing similar they seem as the problem doesnt exis...

only gripe i can find so far is all the izotope plugs. none of them show up as 64bit versions even though their installers ask for both 32 and 64 bit vst locations. jbridge helps but i dont think its a stable solution in the longer run. actually creating a new windows profile seems to remove the issue but its a pain to set up because ableton needs to re-register, rescan plugins and basically reset everything from scratch. the same naturally applies to many other customized settings/program behavior in the 'old' profile.
