this is a bit of a workaround but i use the virtual midi keyboard from 'insert piz here' the keyboard is horizontal and resizable put it on a midi track, send the midi to an instrument and you can record all the keys you hit pretty good for doing runs up and down the keyboard and more random keyboar...

i'd like to have note replace as well as overdub
like what happens with the electribes

yeah i'd like parts of the gui to undock too

you need to get some vst instruments and put them in the vst folder
they will then show up in the ableton browser
you can get loads of free vst instruments and effects at http://www.kvraudio.com
look in the plugin database

when you load a sample in a drum rack, the sample is loaded in a simpler, just put your efx after the individual simpler if you want to layer several drum hits on one pad load an instrument rack onto a drum rack pad then you can add multiple samples to the instrument rack and have separate efx on ea...
