Sample editors?

In the manual it mentions being able to choose an external sample editor in the preferences...what kind of programs is it referring to?

Cheap monitors or cheapish headphones?

I need to upgrade my old cheapo headphones. So let's say I had around $1-200 to spend on either monitors or headphones, what would be better for mixing etc? Something like these: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-M1-Active-520-75W-Active-NearField-Reference-Monitor-Pair?sku=603226 ...

Re: APC20 vs Launchpad

hmm...well this new info does not bode well in my plans for a "personal space command center of the future"(TM). How will he ever get back to Ogg Vorbis then, you may ask...well fear not my friends, for I have recently come across a Micropak by Pure Magnetik which features some sort of &qu...

V-Studio 20 with Ableton?

I was checking this thing out and it seems designed to use with Cakewalk but was wondering if the sliders and knobs work as controllers in Ableton? I might be in the market for an interface at some point and it would be cool to have those features built into it, along with having all of the Boss eff...

Re: APC20 vs Launchpad

I have a few questions about these..first, do most of you use the buttons on either on these to play drum beats, or do you use a separate pad controller, a keyboard, or a kb w/ pads? Because since they are not velocity sensitive, I'm thinking I might as well use a computer keyboard, or something lik...

Re: Has anyone attended the SAE institute's classes

Yeah I get what you are saying, but I think that I would benefit much more in a classroom/actual studio enviroment with people and teachers etc. It is easier for me to learn that way rather than sitting around on the computer reading articles and e-books, but yeah I do practice that way as well.

Has anyone attended the SAE institute's classes

I found it on Ableton's education page. Any opinions? http://newyork.sae.edu/en-us/home/ And the prices? There doesn't seem to be any info on the site. Also in NY is Dubstep, if anybody has info on that. I am also considering several online course options, but obviously a studio enviroment with a te...

Re: Opinions on these two options to use with Live?

Ok thanks! I don't have an audio interface yet, but I might be getting one just for throwing in some small guitar and bass riffs at some point. As for which tool(sound design or beats), I would say both I guess. I have the free Kore 2 Player and I like it a lot, and no MIDI controller to speak of so...

Opinions on these two options to use with Live?

Would you get: Audio interface + MIDI controller + Kore 2(software version) or the Maschine The first option could also have a few other small things thrown in, like a Nanopad, headphones...as much as possible while keeping it all cheaper than buying just the Maschine. Obviously I would get more stu...

Re: Is the M-Audio Fast Track any good?

I hade the AK1 with a pc laptop. All good with no latency and great sound, until you add a midi controller then all is out the window, but this was only an issue with windowz and ableton with a midi controller. Besides this specific problem you would be good to go. Ok, but was there latency when re...

Re: Is the M-Audio Fast Track any good?

Does anyone have the NI Audio Kontrol 1? It looks pretty good for the price and with all of the software that is included with it, plus it has MIDI in/outs which the TC Electronics thing I was checking out doesn't have. They might not be necessary for me to have right away, but I would like somethin...

Re: Arranging MIDI clips without doing so in realtime.

You can do just what you described. What I usually do if I want to compose something that way is record a few random notes of whatever MIDI instrument you are playing, then just click on the clip and on the bottom Detail View, you can either double click the notes in like nightwing said, or use the ...

Re: I'm poor and I need more drums!

Ok but I am curious, is that legal to take all the sounds from hardware drum machines that would usually have to be purchased to obtain? Well the site has been around for quite a while, I would assume that if it wasn't legal someone would have done something by now. Ableton include various vintage ...

anyone get TrackTeamAudio's free sequencer to work in Live 8

It seems like a rather nice plug-in, but I'm not sure how to get it to show up in Live Lite 8, if it's even possible. There is just a .DS_Store file and Install and Lessons.rtf, no VST file, or would these formats only work with older versions of Live. Or if there is another free alternative that an...
