I am about to purchase Live, but I as a Cubase user have been a bit concerned that Ableton might not release new unlock codes if I reinstall without an image or change hardware. Changing hardware like soundcard or RAM won't alter the fingerprint of the system and therefor no new unlock is needed. R...

Four time a year is quite a lot in my opinion. I have a major upgrade every 2 or 3 years. Well, that's the way it is then. No reason to complain about Ableton support on this.

after doing some research, your post looks very accurate indeed! leaving me still with the question: can I daisy chain the FW410 sound card to the drive? Firewire has seperate send and receive wires and is therefore 'full-duplex' where USB is sort of half-duplex (send and receive packages sharing t...

I think in future we may need on-line compiling of a 'software' which embeds purchaser details into the resulting output at the point of purchase. So each item is distinct.
but perhaps that is too Orwellian
The answer is Audio Watermarking. But it will cost some processingpower to do this.

In my experience:

- - - Fastest - - -

- Serial ATA
- Firewire 800 (Mbit)
- Firewire 400 (Mbit)
- USB 2 (480MBit in theory but fw 400Mbit is faster in practice)
- Ethernet 1000Mbit (is slower because of network protocol overhead)
- Ethernet 100Mbit
- USB 1.1

- - - Slowest - - -

It's very frustrating when your work is copied in a disrespectful way, very sad! Individually (audio) watermarking every copy would provide a way to track offenders, but it will drastically raise the costs of the promotion campaign. I hope you will find a solution to the problem. Good luck in the fu...

I like the concept of connecting several computers together in a building, nice product.

For syncing two computers the $129 for a MIDIoverLAN CP 3.0.1 Standard Edition (Mac/PC, 2 computers license) is quite a lot of money.

A midi-interface will cost you about 1/3.
