What system specs you got? 32-bit or 64-bit live?
Also wasn't live 8.0 a really screwed version? haha!

Hmmmm! Not sure what to suggest. By the looks of your set up you should probably be have 32-bit Live installed. Don't you find 9.1 64-bit too CPU intensive on your set up?

I am now on yesterdays update and it's working near perfect on L8 now
