Re: OT: What's your best or secret BBQ marinade?
if you actually did mean BBQing instead of grilling, then ribs and brisket it is. slow cook that stuff. indirect heat. if you have a four burner grill, stick the meat in the middle of the grill and light the outside burners. i like my meats with a dry rub seasoning or a simple marinade versus slath...

Re: OT: What's your best or secret BBQ marinade?
all steaks should be enjoyed rare to medium rare. if you actually like steak medium to well done, just stop eating steak. it's a waste of money for you. buy some beef jerky instead. Bullshit. Rare-meat snobbery is a ridiculous and annoying fallacy. I enjoy my steak medium-well, as rare, juicy meat ...

Re: which do you prefer- MPC...APC 40...Maschine...Monome...???
based on the fact you have a book in your sig we can skip the whole 16v24 bit quality differences, right? it's negligible? can we please skip that part? ;) What book is that? But yes, my reasoning is more workflow/procedural than audio quality based (especially for drums). But there are other reaso...

Re: which do you prefer- MPC...APC 40...Maschine...Monome...???
why do you need 24 bit? Well like I said, everything I do daw-wise is 24 bit. All my sample collections and everything I record is 24 bit. If I got an MPC, I would have to start altering my workflow, like converting 24 bit samples to 16 bit, and either making sure to do any recording/sampling I mig...

Re: which do you prefer- MPC...APC 40...Maschine...Monome...???
I'm leaning heavily towards Maschine. While the APC40 is cool, it is much more of a "performance" oriented piece IMO, and I need more compositional/workflow tools. I'd be more into the MPC option if it supported 24 bit samples; the question on my mind is whether Akai is going to come out ...

Re: Workflow: Anyone start in Arrange, then to Session?
That's interesting, I always thought it defaulted to one measure. huh. It does if you double click in an empty slot to create a blank clip before recording, but if you just hit the record button in an empty slot the clip will be whatever length you decide. - Nick Wow, thanks! All these years, alway...

Re: Is musicianship your main profession? (Poll inside)
I teach guitar lessons for a living, and do small jazz gigs occasionally. Studio stuff is more a hobby at this point, though I used to have a small basement studio with a partner back in the day. I don't ever want to go back to recording new band's demos, talk about hard work (mostly babysiting).

Re: hey all... Getting a Korg PadKontrol very soon!!!
... same with octave up / down... just create scenes with whatever scales you need and swop them via the scene wheel or button in a split second to any scale you need... Oh I agree the editor is great, and I actually have two scenes set up for octave up/down from the default. But what is this "...

Re: Workflow: Anyone start in Arrange, then to Session?
Also for drums, I like to be able to jam freely (along with a bass loop or something), and then go back and isolate/touch up any cool parts, and make them into their own loops. Session isn't good for this since you have to pre-define your clip length. So again, how can I do this in Arrange and then...

Re: hey all... Getting a Korg PadKontrol very soon!!!
On PC I haven't really been able to do anything cool with the PK other than simply controlling Drum Racks. Hold doesn't seem to do anything, Flam and Roll only work on one pad for me, not even sure what I can use the two knobs for (volume and pan of the drumrack track I guess, not very cool or excit...
