Really loved this one: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/178 "Planetary scientist Carolyn Porco says, "I'm going to take you on a journey." And does she ever. Showing breathtaking images from the Cassini voyage to Saturn, she focuses on Saturn's intriguing largest moon, Titan...

string theory is pointing to 11 dimensions in our universe. it's kind of tough to explain, this is like the day 1 lecture on calc, I remember going 'wtf?' I'll try and find a good example online. gjm - your example only uses one dimension. dunno how to address that, ummm never make assumptions. you...

You'll need the AU version (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Units).

Doesn't it squash everything down (i.e. squish the peaks) so that the the entire volume can then be increased? (Perceived loudness is determined by average loudness rather than peak loudness).

Hmm...Or maybe I just don't have a clue! :P

In the simple way that I understand it, sidechaining is the use of an external audio signal to trigger an effect on an audio track. Often, this is a compressor. Example: when a radio presenter talks over some background music, sidechaining is used to detect the external audio signal (the presenter's...

My recommendation would be something like the Yamaha Pacifica 112, it looks like a strat but plays better than a Squier Stratocaster. It also has a humbucker pickup at the bridge and 2 single coils for more tonal variety and has a great action. They were selling a version of this called an EG112 wi...

Just to add my little bit to the discussion (for what it's worth): I've been a member of Amnesty International for many years. In that time, I've read reports of dozens of serious human rights abuses: murders, indefinite detainment without charge, torture - to name a few such atrocities. I've writte...

Sure, I've got that issue of SoS to hand :) It just describes, in detail, where artist revenues come from these days. So, basically it estimates how much you'd make from album sales, etc. It's that kind of thing: it talks about performance royalties, how much you might make from ringtones, etc. It d...

Quite an interesting article about revenue from music in the Dec 2007 issue of Sound on Sound:

Not a free download (but probably will be soon).
