Rimshots are used all the time with timbales.. IMO its what makes that instrument.

It will help a little in the left channel, it never seems to work on the right channel.

You could buy a cheep SoundBlaster card and run that to your speakers and it should sound super good.
Amps are to expensive, you dont need it much.

I enjoy trotting it out every once in a while for a play, but I can't say I "use" it properly...

If you're playing the pads as drums, I think the problem is that the spd-s is not sending velocity like you want it to. OK, I guess the drum sound might not be responding to the midi velocity. I've personally never seen a drum patch that didn't respond to velocity... If you're just triggering clip l...
