Re: Concept album
I just released a concept album, and have learned a lot about the process over the past two years. Keep developing your story, but don't think it has to be super-deep or complex. Just a basic idea is enough. Mine was based on a simple premise: Hong Kong: 2050 A.D. You're about to inject a dose of mi...

<< Nah, stage fright should be conquered. It is only debilitating. >> Here's a differing perspective: stage fright should be fully embraced, and can actually help you create a better show for your audience. Well...up to a point. If it's an all-consuming fear that actually detracts from your performa...

Re: Tarekith is offering 40% off for mastering
This is an awesome deal. Tarekith has mastered 3 of the tracks so far for my new album...well worth the normal price of $50. And a sweet-ass bargain at $30.

Dude stop worrying about DAW fanboys and start producing some awesome music. Looks like you've got a more-than-sufficient rig there, so no excuses.

Re: Guitar Fx ID help?
The pitch shifty effect sounds like a whammy pedal, set to one of its less extreme settings. http://www.digitech.com/en/products/whammy-4th-gen.
The gatey effect is a tremolo, perhaps a pedal like this with a fast setting: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... ductId=139

Re: Quick question: Can you hot-plug a MIDI device in Windows 7?
Interesting...thanks for the tip; I never thought to try jumping back into the preferences menu. It's not as easy as a simple hot-plug, but it's a helluva lot better than going through the rest of the set without the device that got unplugged!

Quick question: Can you hot-plug a MIDI device in Windows 7?
This isn't possible in XP - my current OS. As I evaluate my next performance system, this is a major issue; I've had too many gigs where something gets unplugged, rendering that controller useless unless I restart Ableton. Hot-plugging MIDI is possible on a Mac...but what about Win7?

Re: Mastering & Live Performance
yeah, +1 to what Tarekith said; leaving it to the soundguy is always preferable. In lieu of that - if the soundguy is too drunk/high/apathetic, or there IS not soundguy - you'll have to act as your own live sound engineer. Fortunately it's not that hard; check out this article I wrote about the proc...

Re: getting a better mixdown
Well it's nearly five years later, but Tarekith's advice still rings true. The cool thing is that this approach is also way more conducive to actually FINISHING a track. And working with the natural dynamics of the parts and mixing them together without a shitload of EQ/compression tends to give a m...
