i wanted to add that the drive automatically powers up and down with my laptop using usb2, which seems like a good feature to insure proper power up/shut down. when using firewire i am forced to do that manually. so, i guess, that's what started me thinking about using usb2...

usb vs firewire

i just bought a lacie external with firewire and usb. i use a p4 windows xp laptop. i'm looking for a definitive answer as to which connection is best. i know that firewire uses less cpu overhead to prepare transfers, so to me this should make it the choice, but everytime i go to a different website...

ableton has contacted me. i can unluck my software again. yesterday was a bad day. right after my last post, my m-audio firewire 410 blew up. i have no interface now. i heard a pop when i shut my computer down and now no electric. i wonder why the universe is out to get me. thank you for listening.
