Re: MIDI Controller Loses Connection After a Few Seconds

You’ve probably already tested for this but are you sure the USB lead is good and that the sockets in the computer and keyboard are gripping it properly? Secondly are you using a Mac or PC and which version of the operating system? Thirdly, check your power saving scheme isn’t sending the USB socket...

Re: Mac Mini with Ableton Question

I have my MIDI stuff connected to a USB2 powered hub and some external drives connected to a powered U#B 3 hub. My interface connects to one TB2 socket using a TB-> firewire adaptor and I’ve an SSD with the audio library etc. off the other TB2 socket. The hubs don’t seem to make any noticeable diffe...

Re: How to activate my Yamaha-keybord as midi signal in ableton?

How do I paste pictures here that are on my hard disc? So I could send you the picture of the cable I use. You put the image somewhere on-line, say dropbox, then paste a link to the image into a post on the forum. I'm going to assume you have a USB to MIDI interface, to which you have connected the...

Re: RAM problem?

All I can think of suggesting at the moment is to run Activity Monitor at the same time as Live etc. and keep an eye on the memory pressure it reports. If it shows a problem then it's a lack of RAM issue. Otherwise it's something else - might even be faulty RAM I suppose, though that can be a real p...

Re: Are MIDI Capabilities OK or Weak?

To work with sysex in Live you need Max4Live. Even then it wouldn’t be my first choice for handling sysex, I tend to use other applications for that. Live’s basic sequencers are pretty much the same as most DAWs provide, but there are also things like Turing machine based sequencers and various prob...

Re: N00b Q: Mic levels too high, clipping. Basic troubleshooting not working.

How can I fix this :-/ Getting a mic that isn’t also pretending to be an audio interface might well help. USB mics are rarely up to delivering good musical results, though they’re often tolerable for speech and podcasts. And they generally have high latency. Other than that, try using the utility e...

Re: Apple break from Intel

running ableton on the ipad I think we're a long way from running full-blown DAWs like Live on an iPad. Garageband, Cubasis etc. do work but it's not as pleasant or flexible a user environment as a laptop of desktop, likewise Adobe's mobile versions of Photoshop and Lightroom can do a lot but the &...

Re: How Do I: Add Velocity Sensitivity to a Fixed Velocity Instrument?

One way is to open up the Basic Tonewheel Organ's rack to see the Sampler instances used. "Show/hide devices" button on the macro box, then the same on the "components" plugin which lets you select each line in the chain. So Simpler is showing. In Simpler's filter/global tab ther...

Re: Blofeld multi mode problems in Ableton

Firstly you only need one MIDI connection - either USB or the one to the interface, not both. That's asking for MIDI feedback loop issues and is also unecessary. You can use a controller keyboard with the synth just connected by MIDI over USB if you set up a Live MIDI track with the keyboard as inpu...

Which Mac are you using? One thing that might help is the thread about reducing the Mac Windowserver load by reducing Live's graphics frame rate in the "tips and tricks" part of this forum. It made a huge difference to 10's performance for me. After the earliest versions I've found 10 to b...

Re: Too little RAM

a very good start for Mac prep is the QLab guide: https://qlab.app/docs/v4/general/preparing-your-mac/ Yep, it looks very good. One suggestion I would add is that Time Machine Editor is an excellent little app for reining in Time Machine and scheduling backups for when you want them done instead of...

Re: Too little RAM

I cannot help for Mac as it it's just harder to do stuff Nope. Often considerably easier. No mysterious registry to worry about and a full set of GNU *nix tools plus the Apple stuff on top. I assume Mac has the ability to script similar things. Not that I'm an expert scripter, but Macs come as stan...

Re: Newer Audio Interfaces...

If you only need a few inputs and outputs I'd say take a look at the current version of the RME Babyface. RME have an excellent reputation, including supporting older products, and some of the best low-latency drivers in the business. Focusrite seem to slot in as a less expensive alternative with a ...
