Re: Kontakt vs Sampler

I'd say if you do go for Kontakt, spend the extra hundred bucks for Komplete 10, it's a bit more money, but an insanely better deal.

Re: abletontemplates (do I have to buy all used plugins?)

you can load the *template*, but it won't load those instruments into it if you don't have them.

Re: Scared of Losing Everything - Windows Reinstall

as long as the directory paths are still the same, I'd imagine it would be able to recover them.

Re: free 64 bit Audio Analyzer like "s(m)exoscope"

A full version of Scope, from the Vengeance producer suite was given away in one of the last Computer Music mags (#216), you could get it and a bunch of other stuff by buying a digital copy for like $5. Scope is a combo waveform/spectrum/stereo field analyzer, looks pretty good from my so far limite...

Re: studio set up ideas

I suggest a cheap midi keyboard.... maybe 61 keys or something of the like.. Then a really good plugin like Omnisphere... Sorry, I AM bias Half their budget for *ONE* VST? Something like Komplete would make far more sense for somebody starting out, since it covers a lot of different synths, drums, ...

Re: just starting

i bought the intro version about a week or so ago, and so far it seems limiting! is this due to my lack of experience with this? i picked up FLS instantly and same for pro logic, but i feel like this ones just more advanced and ive yet to figure it out 1. Yes, the feature-limited version of Live is...

Re: Everyone uses the MPD32... what's the template/story?

Everyone has their own way of working, finding out what works for you is all that matters really. For me anyway, those nativekontrol scripts are great because with them, even my dinky little nanokontrol v1 can navigate a set, launch clips, control Live devices, control a bank of custom-designed sets...

Re: Everyone uses the MPD32... what's the template/story?

Not an ableton template, but Nativekontrol's Stray does amazing work with scripting for some of the devices I use, I would guess this one is equally amazing:

Re: Some Programming/Plug-in questions..

if you want a simple rate-synced volume modulation, you can just use the Autopan device, with the phase at 0 (or 360) then, instead of panning, it will go up and down in volume based on the rate set, which seems to be what you're asking for! Pretty basic compared to Volumeshaper or LFO Tool, but som...

Re: ableton + plugins/vsts

If you have Suite, learn those instruments first. Operator can probably get you pretty far in the bass department. Generally, the plug-ins you need are the ones that fill a gap in your current capabilities, so it's better to work with what you have until you have figured out what they can do, and wh...

Aether is a pretty big cpu hit, but Breeze (Aether's "little brother", as it were) is designed specifically to be lighter on cpu, and easier to use.

...oh, and can't speak to Breeze specifically, but I use Aether, and it's amazing!

Re: Cheap hardware compressor Vs Live digital compressor

The other good point is that regardless of price or quality, a capable engineer knows how to get the sound they're looking with the available gear. Rumor has it that Swedish House Mafia used the Alesis 3630 compressor extensively to create "their sound", a compressor that many people cons...

Re: the intricate stuff, the complex.

^ like Tagor said, just build a multi-instrument stack with different keyrange zones, it's not quite as elegant as ghost channels, but you can at least see all the notes in the same grid.
