Interesting, I got the same result. Using Snow Leopard 10.6.2 with Live 8.1.1 and Massive 1.1.4, the City Groove patch sounds great in standalone but in Live it sounds like something's seriously messed up. Same result whether I use AU or VST plugin.

+1 for the UAD Solo 610--if you search Craigslist you might find a used one for near your budget. Only one channel but if you can work around that the sound is well worth it.

I do and they're great. High quality, great sound, great price, well integrated with Live. No one does Live packs better than Puremagnetik.

Buy. I don't program either yet but am curious about it. The main reason I bought Max4Live is to benefit from the new instruments and effects that others are creating. But gradually learning the principles of programming and I will say it's only been a few days but already MUCH clearer than Reaktor ...
