I use it as precaution. It seems to run smoother/ faster. It never gave me a lot of trouble, but I figured the extra ventilation couldn't hurt. When I had my G3 tower, it used to freeze up when it got hot and I added an extra fan to it. I figure if you can afford it, it won't hurt your situation. Go...

Do you use it on your lap a lot? or do you usually have it stationed at a desk, like me? I bought a fifty dollar thing to elevate it and it uses usb power to drive fans that keep my Macbook cool. I got it at Best Buy. I don't know if it would help with your situation, but maybe....

Peak Pro 6 XL if you're on a Mac. Not cheap, but it'll do anything you could possible want to do to sound. My biggest problem with it is learning about everything it has to offer. I feel that I have only scratched the surface of it's potential, and I've been a Peak user for 2 years. +1 for quaility...

Obviously, the answer is to make money with Live to pay for the upgrades. Why buy the damn tool and not use it to pay for itself? That makes it affordable at any price.

^^^ Geezus, you probably could get enough theory by taking a couple of years at your local community college. You could easily cover basic harmony, form, orchestration and counterpoint in a couple of years if that's all you took. You'd broaden your pallet and sharpen your composing skills as well. ...
