Yeah I'm using USB2 and i'm still alive. But combo USB/Firewire enclosures are becoming quite common (ie. cheap) so you could always get one of those and it would give you another option.

Yeah, what he said. I find a couple of faders and EQs are more usable than the crossfader. I don't find it very convenient to have to toggle between A, B and A+B. Gets messy if you momentarily hear the track that's meant to be silent!
