Re: Who's making music standing up?
I'm still sitting, but I made a concerted effort this year on functionality and comfort: rolling mixer stand , extra long cables, main studio desk, writing desk/station, monitor stands, etc. I can pretty much stay focused and keep my body in comfortable positions throughout my "sessions" M...

Re: Let's talk field recorders
I love my Tascam DR40. I've had it for a couple of years, use for everything from field recording to documenting band rehearsals to quick-and-dirty live show recording. The built-in mics are surprisingly good (for plastic POSes), but the fact that you can plug in "real" mics (and even pha...

Re: AKAI Advance looks promising, but unfinished...
Yeah the novation boards are definitely worth the time/investment. The novation compact sl is actually one of my favorite boards ever. I opted to go with the mpk249 tho and ditch a bunch of controllers, in attempts to keep my workflow as tight as possible, mind you I work mostly sample based. I hope...

Re: Explain groove box possibilities to me
It was a really cool idea, just too expensive for what it was (compared to say a laptop) for a lot of people I think. Yeah I didn't feel comfortable making the purchase until I could pick one up for $750. I've never really been to interested in drum machines that don't allow you to use your own sou...

Re: Triggerfinger Pro and Arsenal
Already a $200 price drop, sitting at $199. I think that's around the price of the original, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Explain groove box possibilities to me
Did you see the back of the thing? From the front it looks like a sleek flat surface with the screens and interface items but it's kind of fat, and looks sort of fragile. It basically seems like using a whole computer/midi controller rig. :/ Yeah it's many things, but sleek and flat aren't them :lo...

Gonna chime in with my favorite piece, although discontinued and oversized- Feeltune Rhizome. If you can't become inspired using it, well yeah...when released it was $1800, and now on EBay $437. Everything you need right in front of you, on 3 pages and 3 windows per page. Interesting device. I espe...

I picked up the MPK249 and they got it right, great controller! All the talk on the NI and MPC sites as of late are very positive, about the Renaissance software. Promising signs for Akai and potentially there new boards.
