Re: custom or local vst?
I would guess Custom will be a custom VST folder, Local will be in your user library instead of the system library.

Re: Best ~1TB SSD for a 2011 MBP 17?
I went for a Samsung EVO 840 1TB in the end - seems very nippy and no issues so far. Did clean install of mavericks, selectively migrated keychains, email etc over (which all seems fine) and now reinstalling everything else and it seems to be going very quick compared to my old wd scorpio black.

Re: Audio dropouts OSX 10.9.2
Subjectively I think mavericks is less good at accessing external storage, or at it seems to be on my 2011 MBP 17. This seems to apply to all ports Ive tried (FW800, USB2 and both of the eSata express cards I have - OWC and Sonnet). With one of my 32GB memory sticks and the express cards the perform...

Re: plugin compatability with mavericks...listed anywhere?
Do a backup first, upgrade and see how it goes. In some ways maverick seems marginally faster, but at the same time I think it may be marginally less good at audio - ie Im seeing slightly less cpu use, but sound breakup seems to occur at slightly lower load. Plugin wise I havent had an problems yet....

Re: emulating a no-input mixer.
Hmm - I wonder if the feedback+latency situation gets any better with feedback loops when you use a device with through-audio monitor and a sidechain input and lookahead set to 0ms. You usually need a compressor in the chains anyway to keep the volume level clamped down. For eg, static the device at...

Re: How to reduce latency in Ableton Live
What sort of things are people trying to do that is causing apparently huge latency? Playing synths from midi controller? Use Live as a hardware fx box with long plugin chains. What reported latency are you seeing in Live preference audio tab? Have you tried measuring the real round trip latency for...

Re: Performance Issues / good work
For Live DJ sets, I find being quite brutal and simplifying it as much as possible helps both to make it more manageable and less error prone as well as giving you computer a lot more breathing space if it randomly decided to do some background task at the wrong time. Consider bouncing as much as po...

Re: MacBook Pro 13 inch Performance
I wouldn't waste money on 16GB - 8Gb would be good however.
The SSD should be quite decent, but 250GB might soon feel a bit small.
Have a look on the live 9 performance test thread - Im sure someone will have a similar machine.

Re: Best laptops for work with Live 9 ?
Latest model of refurbished MacBook pro 17 you can get (mine is Feb 2011 which has an expresscard/34 slot and is actually a really good PC laptop for audio apps as well with bootcamp+windows 7/64), otherwise that sonnet adapter.
No idea what PC laptops support this these days.

Yes - that was the other I was looking at until saw a load of people on the apple forums having issues with it.
