Hi invol, thanks for the tip! It makes sense.
But if the project folder is on the external HDD, wouldn't
sample files also be external? I don't know whether it makes
such a difference to have separate HDDs for samples and for
recording purposes.

Recording to external HDD?
Hello, Today I did a recording through mic -> audio interface -> macbook, with Ableton running just a few instruments tracks. Throughout the recording there are light crackles and occasional pops. I'm wondering if this is because I was recording to an internal HDD, 5600 rpm. In the Activity Monitor,...

Re: How to clean up Guitar hum
I read the description of Tubeman Mk II, and from what I could see, it doesn't have ground lift . Connecting a computer/laptop/audio interface to another audio equipment can cause a background hum due to a "ground loop". This can be related to the electrical wiring of your house, venue, et...

Re: How to clean up Guitar hum
Hi filter_7, Just today I solved a background hum issue between my audio interface and amplifier, so here's my two cents: DI Box. The one that did it for me was ART DTI . However, as you're on a guitar, you might need an *active* DI Box with Hi-Z input, depending on where in the signal chain you put...

Re: Controlling Tonelab LE from Ableton
Quoted from page 52 of the manual, under Control Change: --- For each controller (I believe they mean each effect in the chain) specify whether ToneLab LE will transmit and receive control change messages. If you want ToneLab LE to transmit and receive messages for a controller, specify the control ...

Controlling Tonelab LE from Ableton
Hello, Does anyone use the VOX Tonelab and control it from within Ableton Live? I'm looking to use Tonelab as a general feed-through valve preamp and hardware fx. Routing what goes in, like switching synth or guitar, shouldn't be too hard to figure out. The question is how deep am I able to control ...

Trick to switch banks of MIDI mappings on nanoKontrol, etc.
Hi All, Here's a trick I devised to switch between "banks" or pages of functionality on nanoKontrol and other MIDI controllers. For example, in one moment I can be controlling one set of tracks, and with a push of a button, the same faders, knobs, buttons control another set of parameters,...

Re: 1 button to toggle between 2 clips - for fade in/out
Thanks for the help, 3dot... I use ClyphX and I knew there was a way to achieve this, just couldn't figure out how. I tried what you suggested, but the command didn't work for some reason. It turns out I had an older version of ClyphX, so I upgraded to 2.0.5. It still didn't work -- I think separati...

1 button to toggle between 2 clips - for fade in/out
Hi All, Got a bit of a puzzle to solve in my setup.. I have 2 clips on a track, one for "fade in" automation and another for "fade out". Currently I'm using two MIDI buttons to trigger each. I would like to be able to use just one button to toggle between the two clips, so when I...

Re: Switch though instruments with two MIDI buttons
An easier solution: I just learned that by right-clicking on the chain selector, there is an option to "filter MIDI Ctrl". That eliminates the need for my rather cumbersome work-around. So, to summarize, the easiest way I found to switch through instruments with two MIDI buttons is: -- Ins...

Re: Filter MIDI program change / CC only to active chain
Ahhh, I didn't know about the "filter MIDI Ctrl" option on chain selector. That really helps. Thanks, rdevries! I had a work-around set up, by switching MIDI in channels, but this will simplify things. I appreciate the tip.

Re: Moving through chain selector with two MIDI buttons
Ahhh, finally solved. Thanks a lot! Here's how I set it up. I have a group of MIDI tracks, each loaded with different instruments. Next, I have two tracks for clyphx clips. For example, the tracks look like this: 1 - Group 2 - Massive 3 - Reaktor 4 - Sylenth 5 - Clyphx 6 - Clyphx 2 In the first Clyp...

Re: Moving through chain selector with two MIDI buttons
I see, yes, I was thinking of using separate tracks for each instrument but was stuck on how to turn off all others off except for the active instrument. Your idea on changing the "midi-from" is a good idea. I will try it and post back. I'm surprised a simple solution doesn't seem to exist...

Re: Moving through chain selector with two MIDI buttons
Just found out, turning off the chains will not stop them from receiving CC/program change messages.
Hmm, it seems I need a different approach than chains... I'll read more to see how other people switch multiple instruments.
