Re: -18db digital = 0db analog
Read this: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/463010-reason-most-itb-mixes-don-t-sound-good-analog-mixes-restored.html I hate this often quoted thread as while it is useful for people who were moving to ITB digital from analogue hardware, it confuses things for people who ha...

Re: -18db digital = 0db analog
It is common practice to calibrate VU meters according to various reference levels.. 0 VU is commonly referenced to - 18 dB FS, but they do not equal each other according to any pure math. There are different dB measurements that correspond to specific a specific voltage, but this is not that sort o...

New music production book
Hello Ableton peoples, Close to 2 years ago I starting thinking about writing a book for independent electronic music producers, and it is finally available. While it is not Ableton-centric, Live gets a lot of love and it covers topics of interest to everyone on this forum. "The Music Producer'...

You can use a MIDI loopback trick, either with IAC on Mac or MIDI Yoke on PC:

Re: Metering scale
Also, don't confuse the metering scale with the volume fader's labeling. Tarekith is correct about 32 bit audio, but additionally, the +6 means you can add that much gain to the incoming signal, above unity gain, which is also labelled as 0. Don't confuse 0 dBFS , measured by the peak meters in Live...

Are you running any demo plug-ins? Or are you using external audio/instrument devices?

Re: rate issues
You must have recorded at 44.1 if you did not bounce or export. Live does not change the sample rate of a file when you import it. If you are looking for a really good batch converter app with excellent SRC, check out Audiofile Engineering's Sample Manager - http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/samp...

Re: rate issues
I am guessing you mean 96 kHz and 24 bit. Did you export/bounce out of PT at 44.1? PT 9 and earlier only work with split stereo pairs - .L / .R, so you have to export or bounce to Stereo Interleaved for Live to see them as one stereo file. PT 10 can handle interleaved stereo (finally!). Live does no...

It may be whether they are measuring amplitude as two separate channels, or as stereo summed signal. That would account for a 3dB difference.
