Re: Crackling on playback?

If it helps, my CPU usage goes quite high (40-50%), and my crackling seems to reduce a bit when I use my laptops in-built sound card to playback, rather than my audio interface.

Crackling on playback?

Hey guys, I've got a Novation Impulse hooked up to Ableton on my laptop. I use an M-audio Fast track Pro as my audio interface. However, when I tried making a track, I get crackling on playback. I don't what the problem is. Is it a problem with the audio interface? I read that it may be due to buffe...

Re: -6db?

'Leave the master fader at 0 and adjust your track volumes so that when the mixdown is the way you want it, the master channel SIGNAL is roughly around -6dB.'

Whats the difference between the master fader and the master signal? How do I get the master fader to 0?

awesome, thanks so much. by the way do they mean all tracks volume sliders need to be at -6dB, or just the master volume slider?

Re: To master or not to master?

Hey keefbaker, thanks for your reply. I'm sort of an amateur. Would you mind telling me what I should use to reduce frequencies and low cut things that don't need low frequencies? What are big transients? Are there any youtube tutorials that might explain this?

To master or not to master?

Hi guys, I've been having some trouble getting my tracks as loud as I want them. Mastering plug ins like izotope ozone are too expensive for me right now. Someone once told me that I may not need to master at all, if my tracks are 'mixed right'. 'Mixing right' seems quite vague, what does it mean? A...

-6db?

Hi guys, i was told that I need to leave my finished piece at -6dB before I send it off for mastering, in order to leave the engineer some room to work with. But I do i ensure that I am at -6dB, because the master volume slider doesn't seem to have a dB indicator?

Thanks guys

Re: Audio effects on MIDI track?

Both MIDI tracks are connected to instruments on the Fantom, via the Fantom VST.

Re: Audio effects on MIDI track?

Thanks the External Instrument worked great! Although now I have a new problem. So I've got my Roland Fantom hooked up, and my Fantom VST open on Ableton. I've opened two new MIDI tracks and placed 'External Instruments' on both of them, so now I can place Audio effects on these MIDI tracks (which I...

Audio effects on MIDI track?

Hi guys,

I've got Ableton hooked up to my Roland Fantom G keyboard. But when I record a MIDI track, and try and drag an audio effect on to it, nothing happens. I guess this makes sense, but I'm sure I've seen Audio effects placed on MIDI tracks before. Could I be doing something wrong?

Re: What's James Blake doing here?

Hmm so I guess it's a bit of a mystery as to how exactly he's doing this. Thanks for your replies though, I'll mess around and try and replicate it as best as I can. If you have any more ideas please let me know : )

Re: What's James Blake doing here?

Thanks for your replies guys. Yh that's what I find so strange...why does the tempo stay the same when the sample is being played at lower/higher pitches?

Anyway I can re-create this effect using Ableton/ plug ins?

What's James Blake doing here?

Hey guys, Im an ableton amateur. I was wondering if anyone could let me know how James Blake is manipulating his vocals in his song 'I mind'. The vocal line Im talking about is first introduced 18 seconds into the song, and he then sort of turns it into a bassline around 35 seconds into the song. Re...
