I am not Robert, I respect Robert and what he has to say about audio. However, I know and trust my ears, and no amount of audio theories and mathematical facts can tell me that I'm imagining things when I say that there's a clear difference is sound quality. Forget the one file only test. No, we're ...

Re: ..

what difference are you hearing and how do you notice it? are you using tracks without effects and no dithering added? I don't think there's a difference between DAW's or if there is a difference it's probably a hard bits versus floating point or something very small. please check: http://recforums...

Monitors people. If your mix sounds muddy it's more likely the output than anything. Save your pennys/euro/yen/pocka shells and buy some kick ass monitors. Seriously. umm....no. This has nothing to do with monitors. Furthermore, yes, I realize PT doesn't have a perfect summing buss, nor d...

Yeah, it's been discussed before, but the more often it's brought up, the more we see that the truth is out there. Live is great, but the summing buss isn't as clear and detailed as other sequencers (ProTools in my case). Start adding many tracks, processing & fx, and you lose definition rather ...

where did that opinion come from?!? Gee I don't know, where do you think it came from. ??? Because Live challenges you to do something besides working with more than 2 tracks at a time???? ////Confused//// Get the echo, it's good for noises. ??????????????????????? I haven't watched any "see h...

cheers AJ, I just research the Echo line, not bad, good reviews across the board, SoundOnSound as well... I don't play out (live) just yet, this would be purely for composing at home, as each time I boot up a session using the Digi002R, I lose more hair and panick attacks set in. It wipes away all d...

need new soundcard just for Live on Powerbook

In light of my rather recent rant about using a Digi002R as an interface for Live, I decided to investigate other options. Sure, I can just use the Powerbook's built-in outputs, but theoretically, a better soundcard would yield more pleasing results (how much better, who knows, as I find the Mac's o...

Hate to bring this post back up, but something interesting has occured lately and I've yet to research it some more. Here goes... The times when Ableton Live seems most powerful is when I'm using it oustide of the house, with no external drives attached. As I often work on-the-go, I keep some of my ...

Ashley, thanks again for your replies. From a purely performance standpoint, do you think a dual 1.8 G5 would be a wiser investment than the fastest Powerbook G4? Truth is, I love composing outside of the house with the PB (coffee shops, hotels, weird places), but when it comes to finalizing project...

Also if we get Dual Processor Support and extra OSX optimization in a forthcoming Live update you’ll be ready to take advantage of it! thanks again. I just read Adam J's thread on the G4/G5 Powerbook comparison, very interesting. I generally love my Powerbook option, I'm so used to it now that gett...

cheers Ashley, Nitro sucks any kind of effect possibility in Live, whis renders it useless. Sonalksis plugins do the same, what a shame. I'm gonna hold out a little more and see what Ableton projects for the future. I really don't want to go back to Logic, but I will if I have to, and getting rid of...

Live + Digi002R: rant/long post/sorry.

Man I've just about had it with this combo. It's not the first time I write about it, both on this forum or to Ableton directly. I have a G4 Powerbook 1.25GHZ with 1GB RAM, running 10.3.8, using Live 4.1 with a Digidesign 002R interface. I don't know if it's just me, perhaps I'm cursed, but the perf...

Well I tried that with a multi sampled bass set I have and while selecting them all and placing them on the mapping editor was all fun and dandy, I ended up with something like this on the keyboard graphic view in Kontakt (moving left to right starting with the A0 Key): Pbass A0/Pbass A1/Pbass A2/PB...
