I've got this program, RealGuitar made by MusicLab...when I try launching the VST, I get a message that that program is not compatible with Ableton LIVE? Huh? I thought VST was VST.

Normally, I'm from the "thinner is better, even if it means getting rid of the CD-Drive". However, just yesterday, I got my Kontakt 5 update, and I spent an hour or two installing it from, yup, the CD's! So, I guess I'm glad that I still have the CD in my current MBP.

Wow, thanks for the various opinions. It's interesting that not everyone is in agreement. Mark, you prefer VST. Is this because of compatibility with PC's? Or is this because they seem to work better for you in some way?

Hey guys. Sorry for the very basic question, but is there any advantage of using VST or AudioUnits or vice versa? Obviously, some plugs only come in one flavor, but when they come in both flavors, is there any advantage to using one or the other?
