Lost for Words - my first instrumental

http://soundcloud.com/mark-the-guitarist/lost-for-words It's amazing, its like a conventional song but without words - I am currently working on an instrumental WITH words - anarchy rules :-) Seriously though, comments welcome. Drums are programmed (midi) everything else is live - all recorded, mixe...

Re: PC or Mac?

IMHO: The real question is not PC -v- Mac, but Windows -v- Unix and the latter (of which Macs are based) is better - one of the best laptops I have runs Ubuntu but I digress.... Back to music production: PC's are undoubtedly cheaper and there is more 'free' stuff, and well before you get serious wit...

Re: CONTEST: Can you recreate this track?

The drumming would be the thing for me as I can far more naturally think in rock-esque 4/4 timing not reggae... so that would be a challenge. Musicianship aside the rest would be quite simple, playing along track by track with live instruments - which is how i tend to work... very rare do i cut/past...

Re: drums help in live 8

...to make your drums come alive a bit more - try a Saturator after the drum rack. 6db drive, the rest default settings then use the wet/dry to mix some of this body into the kit. Thank you for that. Not used saturator before and just tried against some of my existing drum tracks, particularly the ...

Mastering - general practice

I tend to apply mastering e.g. isotope changes in Ableton against a fully loaded project i.e. on the master channel as opposed to exporting a single stereo file then apply mastering changes to that. This is a matter of convenience for me so that I can (shouldn't have to but do) return to mix and/or ...

Re: lets talk SSD hard drives

And, you should always have a good backup plan, whether using HDDs or SSDs. +1 Your personal data is the most valuable... everything else can be reinstalled from scratch. The choice is simple... is it important, can you live without it? Personally I transcribe all my work to binary and write it out...

Re: using screenflow - exporting in lion - read this

Terminal, or rather unix commands, can be unforgiving... Seven characters, including spaces, with the right permission, can erase everything on your disk... warts and all. If you don't think this is possible, look up the 'rm' command on google and the '-r' switch. We used to test the metal of our ju...
