Re: Basics of mixing Progressive House?
Rules for mixing progressive house 1. Pick the best tunes. 2. Pick the best tunes. 3. Pick the best tunes. 4. If you mix them even vaguely smoothly it will be awesome. Oh and if what you want is a simple dj mix - which I don't mean in a disparaging way, because it's quite sufficient for parties and ...

Re: Need some help with an EQ problem
The others are right, no reason to cut highs by default. Unless they make your ears hurt, leave them in (...he says, having been guilty of making tunes with ear blistering highs in the past - it takes some practice to get the balance right!). If you are using an mp3 as a mastering reference that wou...

Re: Need some help with an EQ problem
But in summary you are not trying to cut everything, you are trying to make it sound good. If it sounds good then don't worry. If not then stack up EQ8 points or get a better EQ.

Re: Need some help with an EQ problem
EQ cuts are not infinitely steep: sound doesn't work that way, it's impossible to cut frequency very precisely without also smearing the signal in time. A lot like the uncertainty principle in physics. EQ8 cuts are probably 6db/octave or 12db/octave, something like that. If you stack a few EQ points...

Re: Drum & Bass sidechaining question?
That depends on what you're sidechaining - bass, hats, mid... - and what freqiencies of the kick/snare it overlaps with (snares in dnb are often quite bassy, with some worthwhile content around 140hz) - AND what if any, audible effect on the groove you want it to have. Do whatever works. Often I go ...

Saying that, I have a mate who can put together reasonably mixed tunes on laptop inbuilt speakers. Don't underestimate the value of training your mind and your ears.

Re: How much do Dj’s make
Probably depends on the music scene a bit. This is written as a former psy promoter/dj/performer very much in the alternative circuit. For big names it's determined by their value to the club. ie how many extra punters do you think will turn up because their name is on the promotion. So if you booke...

Re: How To Do Spectral Morphing
From the blurb, that spear thing sounds like another interface on a phase vocoder. Which essentially just breaks down a sound into lots of sinusoids. And I suspect doppler shifting might be the kind of stereo fm you can achieve with e.g. waves mondomod.

Re: Create high frequency sound
The dog's doesn't understand payback, it's just doing what comes naturally to it. If you succeed in creating a sound that annoys it (unlikely seeing how high frequency travels through walls) then better to use that in short bursts as a training aid, rather than long term. And stop if it doesn't work...

Re: Are there any noise gates which open will a swell?
+1 for volume automation, if you really want control. Crazy thought, you could try inverse phase compression. Make a rack with 2 channels, put compressor on one, followed by utility with phz-l and phz-r both clicked. You may need to stick a simple delay on the other channel to match the compressor l...

Re: How To Do Spectral Morphing
Glad you found something that does what you wanted :) Vocoders: A vocoder is an effect which applies the spectral shape (formant?) and rhythm of one stream of audio, to another stream of audio. It does this by chopping up the second stream (the carrier) into lots of frequency bands and adjusting the...

Re: ZERO LATENCY PLUGINS????
This is interesting, I don't have L8 so don't know about limiter but I imagine it's not zero latency though (none of the best limiters are).
I wonder what happens if you try reverb, eq8 or ping pong delay. They should be zero latency. Plus your soundcard roundtrip of course.

Re: Waves Plugin for DJ SETS
There shouldn't be much need for limiting on a dj mix as all the individual tracks will have been mastered (including fairly heavy limiting) already. Are you mixing between tunes at a fairly consistent level? If so, then if you want it louder all you need do is turn up your amp (that's what you do a...

An infinity of bugfixes with live 9 scheduled for 2014 or so would be awesome. I might even upgrade to 8 then.
